Genderquake - anyone see it last night?

I really don't understand the gender fluidity that we are presented with today and thought this programme might enlighten me. (With a weather eye to the fact that the producers are making an entertainment programme, and as such, won't be bothered if it turns into a outlandish, trash TV fest like Big Brother.)

I really felt for Romario last night. He presented as a straight man, but was outed by another housemate as trans.

Romario's question to one of the other trans housemates "when do you stop being trans" was so poignant and really touched a nerve with me. When does he get to just be a man?

Then to be outed by poisonous Markus who somehow felt he was entitled to "honesty". While Romario's dignified statement "this information is a privilege to have, it is mine to keep".

Mind you, Markus, who identifies as a gay man who wears makeup, did state he thinks a lot of the gender debate is a fad, like being gluten free.....

Surprised I could be so touched by a programme where the cameras seemed to focus on the hot tub and communal bathing.

Anyone else any comments?

Just been watching now, it was horrible to do that to him, the rest of the group had the right idea in waiting until he was comfortable in telling them himself.

I really felt for him, he is clearly not comfortable with the labels.

Markus comes across as a poisonous, entitled stirrer. So what if you have been lied to in the past? You don't get to confront people just to satisfy your own curiosity and then humiliate them!

I’m just watching now and I did have a tear when his mum was telling the story. I never thought this would be my cup of tea but it’s opening my eyes.

I felt sorry for Romario after his Mum had revealed what she did, the 'family' story.
His family did a proper number on him without a doubt and there's a lifetime of deep-rooted psychological issues there.

Romario had no right to withold his status from Filomena while he experimented and tested whether he 'passed' well enough to pull a straight girl.

Being 'different' doesn't some with the 'right' or the entitlement to mess with other people's emotions because you're 'special' while denying those other people insight into your motivations because they're not 'special'.

I felt Romario walked a very dangerous line - which reminded me of that walked by the various girls in court cases who have impersonated boys, instigated sexual relationships and then been found guilty of offences.

Filomena was naive - and a bit too thick to be true, in this day and age - but that doesn't mean Romario had the right to experiment and use her in his little game/test.

Markus is a 'marmite' minor celeb but he was the only one still clinging onto a moral compass.

I feel sorry for Romario but he was wrong to deceive the girl he kissed.
As for his question "when do you stop being trans" I am sorry but in my opinion you don't, ever. Whatever surgery you have.

I think I agree with futuristic actually more or less. I don't think he should have withheld it from Filomena.

Did to see the debate as well?

Whattheactualfuckmate · 14/05/2018 12:11

I think what Romario did was awful tbh. Trying to pull the wool over filominas eyes was sly.

Marcus was the only one with honesty to tell her. I rate him for that.
