The Widow's Tale
Tue 15 May, 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm 60mins
Anna Ford felt that she was trudging through a long dark tunnel. Joan Rivers contemplated suicide, and Sally Banks (widow of Tony Banks) feared that she would wake up and not be able to get out of bed.
Eight out of every ten married women in Britain will become widows, but all of them feel as though they are going through the experience alone. In this programme, six widows from different backgrounds speak with extraordinary candour about the deaths of their husbands, and their personal nightmares that followed.
Contributors include Alex Best, who was married to former footballer George for 10 years; columnist and agony aunt Katharine Whitehorn who was married to novelist Gavin Lyall for 45 years, and Jayne Zito whose husband Jonathan was stabbed on the London Underground. [S]
