I still can’t get my head around her, she’s so adamant it’s ok to pretend to be black! I’ve only just started it so am interested to hear what she has to say and what she thinks qualifies you to identify as a different colour.
I’m surprised she appeared on it tbh, you’d have thought she’d want to disappear after being caught out.

I watched it last night and was gobsmacked by her. Her two boys were so lovely but I really felt sorry for them in the end and understood why the eldest was getting pissed off and left. However, having heard about her childhood, I could understand why she'd want to "identify" with anything but her parents as it sounded horrific (I don't want to spoil by revealing anything).

I get the impression she feels that any publicity is good publicity and wants to stay in the public eye, despite what her kids want. The term "trans-racial" left me a bit Hmm

I watched it yesterday, very strange but I really felt for her sons.

Watched it. Imo she is batshit. Pathological. Narcissistic. Calculating as fuck. Oddly flat. (Ruining her 'self portrait' was a dramasic scene, sure, but I' convinced she planned to do that. She didn't paint the with face anywhere near as much detail as the jewellery and headdress.)

That's not to say her parents weren't bad, or that Rachel herself is bad through and through.
I believed the younger siblings when they spoke of a childhood they'd had to recover from. I feel really sorry for the boys. And why the hell did she have to post pics on social media about the oldest visiting Howard University?

I know that this is an old thread, but i'm watching this for the first time today.

I kind of think that she is despicable. Not necessarily intentionally though. She is using her sons to suffer black oppression. She keeps herself in the public eye through social media, books, tv documentaries. Her poor sons. I hope that they can move on from this.

I can see that this developed from dissociating from her parents, having an unpleasant, even abusive (?) childhood and identifying more with her adopted siblings that some she later assumed guardianship for. But these are struggles that do not mean that she is black.

By the by, she seems like a great artist.
