Oh dear. How depressing. A microcosm of What's Gone Wrong.

I mean, I also can barely understand the questions, but the (chosen) baying mob of Goggleboxers resort to crass mimic, derision and dismissal.

I readily admit that I don't understand the mechanics of medieval history, or whatever, but I do understand that such graduates add to our understanding of who we are, what brought us to this point in time, and what we can learn from medieval history. I know what I don't know, but I respect those who do.

Yet if 'we' call them ignorant, boorish chavs, we're 'snobs'.

I'm watching it - I often like what they're saying on Gogglebox but whenever UC is on, they always make themselves look really stupid. I'm in awe of people who know so much - they clearly spent their teenage years in a very different way to me, and I wish I'd worked harder when I watch it.

It is sad. I can't answer many questions on UC either, but it's the mockery of those who can that makes me sad.

I am not a Gogglebox fan. I did however catch a few seconds while DH was channel surfing and saw them mocking the students.

Totally agree that it just shows that being thick, uneducated and ignorant is seen as "cool" and smart is not cool. DH and I always watch Only Connect and do fairly well, not so well on UC.

I am however, howling (with laughter) at the queen's birthday concert. Shaggy??

100% agree. Being clever is cool as fuck. Why can't we celebrate that? Even on MN it's cool to be bad at stuff & not care. FFS.

We turned over after this. I quite like a spot of Gogglebox every now and then, but I found this very uncomfortable viewing. The whole segment simply showed the gogglers (possibly made that up!) mocking others. Very disappointing.

I agree, do not like the way the goggleboxers reacted to the contestants on UC. It only serves to make themselves look ignorant and makes uncomfortable viewing. Intellect should be respected and celebrated, where would we be without great scientists, thinkers, inventors, etc, etc. No TV for starters
