Why did Lauren and Mark never work? TOWIE

Just been watching the first/second series recently. Currently up to the part where Mark and Lauren are looking at a bigger house to buy with Nanny Pat helping them look.

I think Mark is a cocky, self absorbed fellow even now, but I wonder why it worked out for him and Michelle K and not him and Lauren G?

He is a classic controller. Michelle never has to see him as she is always filming away or he grew up ?

I wouldn't have said he's insecure but definitely controlling and a game player who loves the chase

I often wonder if Michell is incredibly dim to be with him or he completely changed his ways

And his family they were awful to her! His mum must be mil from Hell good luck Michelle!
Rewatched first 3 series again recently- Lauren should have gone off at the end of series 1 and stuck two fingers up to the lot of them.

There was quite a disparity in looks. I think he was too shallow to be able to deal with that.

Don’t know march in series 2 Lauren looked amazing and in terms of looks far more attractive than Sam who he went after.
Think he is the sort of man who needs a woman on his arm that all his friends fancy hence Michelle.
Can’t stand him anyway.

Argh! Yes to Mark's Mum being the MIL from hell.

Didn't she say something like "This is also Lauren's fault, she's not the innocent party in this. It's her fault for putting up with it/allowing it"

I also think Mark was very manipulative towards James Argent, a.k.a Arg

He is still coming across as very shallow today. I've seen his page on Instagram and he was calling someone out for eating pasta, saying "What the fuck are you doing mate? Summer is 3 months away you prick"

Why does he get any work at all?

I think he was nasty to Lauren at times. He used to call her fat and ugly!

He was so horrid to Lauren. I used to watch in disbelief at how controlling he was. I think he was emotionally abusive to her.

He was such a vain, manipulative person, horrid to both Lauren and Arg. He clearly felt they were both beneath him. His narcissism meant he would never be satisfied with anything less than a ‘high status’ (relative to his world) partner. Poor Lauren, I hope she found happiness in the end, she was very pretty and a nice person but driven to terrible insecurity by his behaviour. If I was her mum I’d have encouraged her to dump him early on.

Just got a shock - turned on bbc2 and there he was on a cbbc programme - not my idea of a kids tv presenter/role model!

Horribly abusive, controlling and manipulative.
Hope Lauren finds happiness in the future too don’t think she’s there yet though. I would like to see her focus on her career, stop with the plastic surgery and forget about the celebrity side of things altogether.
I wonder how much happier some of them would have been without Towie in their lives...

He's a prat isn't he, Lauren is an absolute shocker though - she irrationally irritates me.

The disparity in looks that March mentioned is very true.

I don’t think there was disparity in looks, she was very pretty. She just wasn’t gym honed like him. He seems very short.

Hmm he is quite shallow but definitely more attractive naturally. As they got more famous I expect he started to feel he 'could do better'

There's a great series called "in therapy" or "celebrities in therapy" - it's actually much less tacky than it sounds initially! - each week follows a celebrity having a course of real therapy. The therapist (Mandy Saligari) is very very good and the programme is great. Anyway, the reason I mention it is that Lauren G was on it and it's well worth a watch. They talk quite a bit about TOWIE and Mark and the family etc. I think it's available still on catch up player - it's a Channel 5 show.
