Shows your Parents banned that your mates all watched

After the thread regards our top 3 most loved Shows, I was talking to DH about mine and the ones I wanted to watch in my teens but my parents banned.

So, who else was banned from watching a show all your mates watched and why were you banned?
Mine are Heartbreak High and Hollyoaks.
Both shows I wanted to watch as everyone raved about them. Both shows which my parents decided to watch with me the first time.

It did not go well.

The episode of Heartbreak High ended with someone going into what was quite graphic labour for teatime on BBC 2. That was a huge no for the parents.
The episode of Hollyoaks which they saw was when Natasha, the posh daughter of the pub owner, died after taking pills.

I was probably about 12 for the first one and 14 for the other. I got round the Hollyoaks ban as despite their strict t.v. policy they used to leave my sis and I every Sunday for at least an hour and a half to go to Tesco so I'd watch E4 and the omnibus Wink

What were yours?

Mine was Hollyoaks also. Only my mum banned it so I just watched it at my dad's on a Sunday.

Grange Hill

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 25/03/2018 22:35

Gladiators.
TBH my parents were generally not keen on anything on itv. Confused

SquirrelWatcher · 25/03/2018 22:35

I was banned from Heartbreak High too! Apparently because it clashed with when the news was on and I wasn't to watch it on the TV in my room alone. God know what they thought I was going to do under its influence!

RingtheBells · 25/03/2018 22:37

I can remember not being able to watch some episodes of The Saint and The Prisoner as they were on too late. Also Dr Who as it gave my DB nightmares, there was always good stuff on at nine o’clock and I think my bedtime was probably about 9:30 so I always missed half a programme, no recording in those days.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 25/03/2018 22:38

The young ones, I was 14 and desperately wanted to watch it because they disapproved Grin

Eastenders
Anything with a hint of the supernatural
Etc

My own policy is anything goes as long as it's not completely age inappropriate

Snowyberry · 25/03/2018 22:45

I had 2 friends who weren't allowed to read Enid Blyton (one of them used to read it at my house - we'd both sit on my bed and read the short stories.)

Snowyberry · 25/03/2018 22:46

My mum unwittingly bought one of them a Naughtiest Girl in the School record for her birthday.

FranKubelik · 25/03/2018 22:46

All of ITV here too (because of the adverts, I think). Had lots of sleepovers at my best friend's house so I could watch the Six Million Dollar Man, the Bionic Woman and Charlie's Angels.

LilQueenie · 25/03/2018 22:48

Nothing whatsoever. Im still scarred by seeing V. My dad actively encouraged me to watch The Young Ones when I was 4.

LilQueenie · 25/03/2018 22:50

Actually I wasn't allowed to watch Grease after listening to the album. Confused who knows why because I was allowed to sit in the room whilst the porkys films were on.

iheartmichellemallon · 25/03/2018 22:51

Twin Peaks

NickyNackyNoodleNoo · 25/03/2018 22:52

Degrassi Junior High was a complete no in our house.

Twogoround · 25/03/2018 22:59

Love thy neighbour
Alf garnet. Can't remember what his show was called.
Was and am scare of a lot horror gory tv . So never watch it and never had on for my kids .
Did stop my young son from watching neighbours as he was sitting their crying one day so I though he need me there to watch it . And I was cooking at that time . When he was older and my cooking time changed we watch neighbours and hone away for a year or so.
