Series like Shetland...

I’m bereft it’s over!

Most TV and big US series don’t interest me much (I’m a bit weird). Loved Shetland, like Homeland. Liked Dr Foster.

Anyone have any recommendations? I would be very grateful so the cold spring days could be a little brighter!

Hinterland?

I came on to suggest Hinterland too. It's possibly a bit darker than Shetland but has a similar vibe of everybody knowing everybody - detectives daughter being at school with murder victim's daughter, that sort of thing.

We watched it in Welsh (it was filmed twice, once in english and once in Welsh) as we wanted to see it as soon as it aired (the Welsh version as first on s4c!). But in some ways the English/bilingual version is much closer to how the language works in this area, with some people preferring English and some Welsh.

There is an overarching story which runs from the beginning of the first series to the end of the third, but there are individual stories within this so you could probably start anywhere.

Vera has a similar vibe too, though I've got a bit fed up of the later series.

Do you like Scandi crime dramas? There are some really great ones - the Bridge, the Killing (avoid the US remake!)...

A Danish one has just started on BBC4 called Below the Surface, but I haven't watched enough of it yet to say if it's any good.

I am not sure about Scandi stuff as I find it quite violent!

Yes some of it can be a bit graphic. I hope you enjoy Hinterland and/or Vera though :)

Recently discovered Hinterland on Netflix and am enjoying it. It isn’t quite as absorbing as Shetland but will do as a filler till the next series.
