Escape to the Country. Formula: wealthy couple coming up to pension age are selling their house on the outskirts of London to go and live in the country (usually in southern England). They need at least four bedrooms for when the grandchildren come to call, and a ginormous garden is a must. The new pad has to be detached and in its own grounds, and quite often they also want an annexe for holiday letting. They show them three houses. It's compulsory for them to walk into the kitchen inevitably bigger than my entire flat and turn their noses up about how small it is and of course they have to have a kitchen diner where ten people can cook at once while entertaining their friends in the diner part, and of course at least three of the bedrooms need their own ensuite bathrooms, and they couldn't possibly compromise on storage space and this one is perfect apart from it doesn't have a shed... you get the picture. In between all of this they go off and make chutney or whittle spoons or some other country pursuit.

The Place in the Sun type shows are funny. They always turn down the lovely traditional rustic homes and end up in a generic villa next to a golf course. Or just enjoy the free holiday and don’t buy anything.

Ugly house to lovely house. It's a George Clark jobby. It's fun seeing the architects making plans for a bog standard normal sized house and, in some cases, pissing and whinging about a £50k budget because they're working with ordinary families, rather than footballers!

Re ETTC you've forgotten they want to have a huge paddock for alpacas!!!!

Oh yes, Ugly house to lovely house where architects are obsessed with black.
Some people massively overspend to end up with a still ugly house hugely dominated by black timber cladding or render.

Yes Escape to the Country where the mystery house at the end is always exactly what the couple said they didn’t want! Don’t like thatched roof? Mystery house will have one. Want to be in a village? Mystery house will be 10 miles from nearest neighbour!

My favourite is homes under the hammer, like to laugh at the dodgy refurbs!
