Has anyone seen this? It's on Sky Atlantic (but also Now TV) and it's about a 20 something, single mum. I've watched the first episode and found it refreshingly honest, sad with bits of humour scattered here and there. I wondered what others thought of it.

Ive just started a thread on this! Im not that keen. Its too try hard i feel like ive seen it before. She reminds me of Leslie Mann.

Some great actors in it im up to episode 4 its all abit depressing and im not finding her very likeable yet.

I find Leslie Mann always plays characters who are a bit more kooky, instantly relatable and likeable even if unravelled.

I guess it's the US, indie, mildly humorous, hard hitting stuff always comes across to me as a bit like Juno and I think it's the same with this in places but I think that's probably like the way American comedy shows are very different to our comedy shows.

I'm wondering if the unlikeable thing is intentional with SMILF. During the first episode I thought she was an awful mother and person but I ended up feeling quite sad for her and by judging her. We never know what goes on in people's heads or homes. I have never done anything like her but often ask "is my child actually happy?" or "I hope I'm not completely fucking this up".

Just starting episode 6 and I can't quite work out what the issue is meant to be with her mother though, just that she reminds me of my own...a lot. Have you figured it out?
