Great Celebrity Bake Off For Cancer

Anyone see last nights programme? I don’t really watch programmes such as the British Bake Off but I caught last nights and it really got me.
In between the celebrities baking their culinary disasters, it featured the story of Eve who was a young girl who died aged 11 last year. I think she was diagnosed in 2015.
I must say her particular story really hit me. Of course all cancer stories are incredibly sad but this one really will stay with me.
Seeing photos of her as a happy young girl then seeing her decline was awful. There was a scene which showed her laying on a hospital bed with her consultant telling her that her treatment wasn’t working and that they would have to look at another. I think the consultant probably knew there was little chance of her survival at that point. But seeing the expression on her face and the fact she was in so much pain was truly awful. She had cancer through out her body.

I suppose it just goes to show how unimportant some things in life really are and that stories like this really do put things into perspective. I hope the family somehow find peace, she had two older sisters who were a real credit to the family.

Yes, I sobbed watching that. Truly awful.
Contrasting with the actual programme, which had some hilariously bad bakes and really had me laughing

Such a moving story, poor lovely Eve and her poor family. It was a poignant counterpoint to the baking, reminding us about the fundraising, not just the celebrities' disasters. (Nick's was spectacularly hopeless) I watched it with my daughter who is a little younger than Eve, she was very affected by her story. I lost my own lovely mum to cancer and donate a lot to cancer research but it prompted me to send some extra cash, we have made such strides with childhood cancer but more research is needed.

I watched last week's (or the one before, I'm confused because they have repeated it a lot I didn't see yesterday's , they'll repeat it though no doubt) with Bill Turnbull so sad.

It was good I liked Harry Hill winning it, he was funny but he could really cook!

demirose87 · 16/03/2018 09:13

I've been watching. That story about the young girl was so sad and brings everything into perspective. My eldest ds 9 watched it and could tell he was affected by Eve's story.
So sad about Bill Turnbull as well. He looked really unwell when they showed the clip about him talking about his cancer, compared to when the Bake Off was filmed. I hope he's around for a while yet.

Nick’s signature bake had me in stitches Grin

Really sad about Eve.

Nick's croquembouche was hilarious.

ppeatfruit · 20/03/2018 12:54

Oh it was repeated yesterday, we came in to the middle of the terrible bit about Eve. DH was so upset he turned over, did she die? it's so awful.

But yes Nick's cooking was unbelievably bad! (I turned back to see his croque). They all had a good laugh. Though I don't think that choux pastry is easy for anyone who is inexperienced.

icelolly99 · 21/03/2018 01:33

Nick Hewers attempts at baking had us in hysterics; it was so funny!

theliverpoolone · 21/03/2018 16:24

Nick would have fitted in well with last night's bunch, he might even have won, if he'd replaced the Scottish Tory lady! Some, (looking at you, Tim Minchin!) were far worse than him!

desperatehousewife21 · 22/03/2018 16:37

Aw poor Tim I love him and high hopes but he was really rather crap Grin

ppeatfruit · 28/03/2018 09:10

Lee Mack was classic last night , i don't think that the judges have ever laughed as much as they did!!

ppeatfruit · 28/03/2018 09:11

And the contestants!!

jemmysmum · 12/04/2018 10:08

I've never watched the celeb one before, I was hoping that all the star bakers of the week would end up in a big final against each other.
