I just watched 45 Years, or rather I tried to stay awake to watch it.

Very sad.

Did anyone else watch it.

Yes I watched it and thought the acting was excellent. The wife's tension could actually be felt (for me anyway) as could the tension between the couple. I was a bit confused about Geoff as he seemed to have some emotional problems but not clear what they were. BUT mostly I was SO disappointed with the ending - I was deeply into it and then - wham - it had suddenly ended.

Italiangreyhound · 11/03/2018 01:57

@Catrina1234 that is exactly what I though, it ended very suddenly.

@Catrina1234 the couple did not have any children but there was the suggestion that the girlfriend had been pregnant. Was that discussed at all? I fell asleep part way through!

Thanks.

I also watched it, was looking forward to it, but it was very disappointing

Usernom1234567890 · 11/03/2018 10:42

The not having children wasn't discussed explicitly-the wife just hinted that all the major decisions in their marriage had been influenced by his dead fiancée.
I found Charlotte Rampling's performance really moving; she's an amazing actress.

freshstart24 · 11/03/2018 12:54

Watched it. I'm wondering if I'm lacking in culture or understanding as I didn't really enjoy or 'get' it. Felt very flat and grey.

Nothing really happened. Maybe that's supposed to be the point.

NotCornflakes · 11/03/2018 13:00

I watched it, I thought it was brilliant and Charlotte Rampling's performance was superb. I agree that it was a very sudden ending. I would love to know what happened next for Kate, if she stayed with him or left. I'm still thinking about it this morning, that's the sign of a good film!

Springiscoming123 · 11/03/2018 16:20

oh i thought they went their own way at the ending

i was a bit confused though

really enjoyed it,made i nice change on a saturday evening

HerSymphonyAndSong · 11/03/2018 16:21

I saw it at the cinema and thought it was excellent and the ending was right. I am from Norfolk and I loved the shots of her walking the dog

Bin85 · 11/03/2018 16:26

I got three quarters of the way through and then Match of the Day came on
Just tried to watch the end on catch up and it’s not on , anyone know if it will be ? Thanks

SomewhereontheM6 · 11/03/2018 20:43

I really liked it although the ending both creeped me out and disappointed me.

I loved that she pulled her arm away. She's obviously had enough. And the song ' smoke gets in your eyes" about the love you never thought would, walking out... genius.

For me it was the total lack of honesty. Everyone has a past but Geoff wasn't able to share that. Implying he still had very deep feelings for his lost love. Had he explained about his girlfriend/ wife and her pregnancy 45 years it would have been different. She never knew her husband at all.

MabelFurball · 11/03/2018 21:58

I was surprised they knew so many people to invite to their party, especially after the way he was moaning about his ex-colleagues at the reunion.

Catrina1234 · 11/03/2018 22:55

I didn't catch anything about Katya having a baby?

Usernom1234567890 · 11/03/2018 23:20

@Catrina1234
When Kate (the wife) went through the husband's slide carousel in the attic, there were a couple of old photos with Katy's with her hand on her bump/ looking obviously pregnant.

Italiangreyhound · 12/03/2018 18:21

@NotCornflakes it is the sign of a good film.

@Catrina1234 a baby bump was showing on one picture but I only got that because Wikipedia said it!

Springiscoming123 · 12/03/2018 18:46

Catrina1234 · 12/03/2018 19:02

Coo some very observant viewers!

Italiangreyhound · 14/03/2018 00:00

It's not being observant it's called falling asleep on the sofa and trying to work out what is happening with Wickepdia!
