This is a documentary series following some of the young women in a juvenile detention centre in the US.
It reminds me a bit of the 'Educating...' series (Educating Essex etc) in that the editing portrays the teenagers sympathetically and doesn't feel exploitative. Girls Incarcerated focuses less on the staff than 'Educating...' but they do explain some of the situations that led to the young people committing crimes.
The series also follows up what happens when they leave the unit.
