Rick Stein in Mexico

I just caught the last episode of this. My son and I were in fits of laughter at the horrible food that Rick cooked. One recipes consisted of mashed sardines with pureed pasata and onions layered on tortillas with refried beans, the next was a sort of huevos rancheros, again the same tomato mix with spicy peppers with fried eggs thrown in and topped with, wait, cubes of ham (that looked like spam) and frozen peas. He was offered a cooked corn on the cob from a street stall, smeared with double cream and dipped in a parmesan type grated cheese topped with chilli sauce. This wasn't so bad compared to the previous catsick, but the highlight for us was the very large fish,
(NOT cooked by Rick , praise be) placed on a palm leaf (OK), topped with tomatoes, onions, peppers (again, OK) and then squirted with a bottle of mayonnaise (not OK, at all). This was then placed in the sandy ground, baked then revealed as the piece de resistance, and YET, instead of combining with the veg to make a creamy sauce, the mayonnaise had congealed in situ, as indeed you would expect with anything containing eggs. Rick's face when he ate it, pulling a multitude of fish bones out of his gob, whilst grimacing and stuttering "very nice" , was an unforgettable sight. Note to director David Pritchard, less of Rick's interminable pieces to camera please!

We've always said that when he was in the Far East he must have had a sick bucket off camera
