Can't find a thread, so I wondered if anyone watched this?
I thought it was fab, and everyone involved must have worked incredibly hard to make it up to this standard.
Looking forward to the next instalment!

Love it but episode 6 has disappeared on iPlayer! Grrrr

Andylion · 20/12/2017 03:33

I’ve just rented Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte from iTunes.

Dustysparrow · 20/12/2017 14:21

I'm enjoying this, it's very interesting viewing and the acting is superb. I didn't know much about Bette and Joan prior to watching this so have found it fascinating.

Susan Sarandon looks absolutely amazing, I can't believe she is 71, she looks about 50! She must be sipping from the same fountain of youth as Nigella.

squashyhat · 20/12/2017 16:53

I think the best portrayal is Hedda Hopper - Judy Davis is fantastic. Her expression when Joan told her she was lucky she had never become a star was perfect. And the hats!

PinkBuffalo · 20/12/2017 18:34

Dusty I didn't know Sarandon was 71!! That's ridiculous! No way would I have said she was 71!

Blow me down, no way?! Wow!

It's a superb series, I loved every minute. Olivia DeHavilland was distinctly unimpressed at her portrayal though- I think she sued.

Boswellox · 20/12/2017 21:38

I binge watched this on BBC IPlayer. Only caught it by accident, thought it was a Sky only drama. Kudos to all involved. Minor quibble is I wished SS had put more effort into sounding like Bette Davis. However as a 55 yr old woman I found myself wishing that at least Joan Crawford would accept that her youthful looks had gone and she couldn't and shouldn't try to compete/logjam the next generation. That she and Bette supposedly got an actress fired because they were threatened by her youthful attractiveness to me had connotations with the almost god like power that studio bosses used and abused, the legacy of which is ongoing. The force that as a woman you're only as strong as your attractiveness was strong with this production, which I presume was the complete opposite of the message it wanted to get across. Still rated it though.

Susan has had good work done isnt she meant to be a diva in real life but Jessica Lange steals my heart. I think shes beautiful and she has a real presence on stage. Susan will always be damn it, Janet to me.

Clawdy · 09/01/2018 11:12

Just catching up on this!

DollyDayScream · 09/01/2018 22:07

Have finished watching this today.
I feel a little bit heartbroken for Joan Crawford at the end.
I don't know why but she seems (in this) much more vulnerable than Bette Davis.

chezbot · 10/01/2018 00:10

Binged most of this today. Lange is heartbreaking. Hugely impressive all round but did a real fan grrrl squeal of delight when a certain film director popped up

ellenanora5 · 10/01/2018 09:02

I'm still watching it, have two episodes left, I think it's fantastic, I first watched WHTBJ when I was about 13 I think, it scared the bejaysus out of me, both Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon have done a brilliant job I think, and it took me ages to realise that Catherine Zeta Jones was Olivia.

I love Al Molina in anything, I still get teary eyed when I think about Roger and Val, that was superb.

I wonder would they have really been enemies if hollywood had left them alone and not egged each other on for their own gain.

TheweewitchRoz · 10/01/2018 10:28

I thought the same ellen both were so badly manipulated & insecure enough that they couldn't see it, despite being intelligent, competent, hardworking women.

fussychica · 10/01/2018 19:10

Excellent series. Makes a change to watch a series with so many great performances.

CassandraCross · 10/01/2018 19:57

I thoroughly enjoyed this series too, although found it quite sad particularly towards the end - I thought Jessica Lange's portrayal of Joan at the end was heartbreaking.

Joan and Betty had far more in common than that which divided them. If only those two intelligent women had become friends or allies, realised that they were being manipulated and exploited by the Studio and Director in order to ramp up the feud they could have played them at their own game and the outcome could have been different.

Boy did they mainline the booze and fags!

I loved the clothes, hats, etc., so elegant.

Recent events have shown that nothing much has changed in Hollywood over the intervening years.

I remember seeing Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and Mildred Pearce years ago, BBC2 used to put films like that on on a Saturday afternoon.

TabbyMack · 11/01/2018 11:30

Just out of interest, the makers are working on their next "Feud" installment...called Buckingham Palace & about Charles & Di. Will be airing later this year.

I think they are intending a series of seasons a bit like American Horror & American Crime.

scrabbler3 · 11/01/2018 23:25

The Charles and Diana one could be interesting - previous dramas about them have been pretty frothy and naff, so it would be good to have something more nuanced. I'm wondering how The Crown will handle the 1980s/1990s when the time comes.

PinkBuffalo · 13/01/2018 14:12

Forgot about this thread!
Having watched it all, I thought it's was very sensitively dealt with. There was a lot of thought put into it & I thought it was very respectful.
Well done to all involved!

Loved this, fascinating

Popchyk · 13/01/2018 14:36

I loved this series. Such great performances.

I also loved seeing the fashions and the interiors. Joan's house was airy and pristine (plastic covering the seats). Bette's house dark and rustic. Jack Warner's huge palatial office.

I thought the relationship between Joan and Mamacita (her housekeeper) was very touching.

BestIsWest · 13/01/2018 14:38

Watched the last episode last night. Thought it was excellent. Thought it was very sad at the end.

BestIsWest · 13/01/2018 14:39

Loved Mamacita. She should have her own show!

SoleBizzz · 13/01/2018 14:47

I need and want a Mamacita. How lucky was Crawford for her to stick around as long as she did.

ellenanora5 · 13/01/2018 20:47

I really really enjoyed the last two episodes, great series all round.

Tabbymack, that's good to know, I'll keep my eye out for it.

HermioneWeasley · 28/01/2018 20:22

Mamacita should have her own spin off.

I am sooooo looking forward to Charles and Di getting this treatment
