What has happened in Eastenders in 2017?

It's a Christmas tradition at DM's house to watch Eastenders after dinner, but this year I've hardly watched it at all. I tried watching an episode last night to catch up, but I'm lost- a drunk Max who isn't seeing his son ever again (why?); Mick and Linda leaving?; a traumatised Cathy?; and lots of people I don't recognise.

Last big event I remember was Roxy and Ronnie drowning. Then maybe a bus crash or that may have been first. Also Louise was bullying Bex and Michelle's young man had arrived from US I think.

So what have I missed (a lot it seems) in the past year? I've heard that Abby is pregnant but Steven died but not much else. I'll watch another episode tonight but if anyone wants to help me out with a summary of the main storylines of 2017 (and who all the new faces are) it would be much appreciated.

God it would take rather a long time to explain everything.. If I were you I would go onto the Eastenders thread (no spoilers 21) and ask on there so someone who is less lazy than me can give you a run down. The main thing was probably Max trying to get revenge on everyone in the square for being complicit in sending him to prison. He gets involved with a development company who basically want to destroy the square, buying up all the businesses and turning them into flats etc.. It turns out the main guy behind it all is James Willmot Brown who went to prison for raping Kathy in the 80's. Have a look on EE website too as that should fill you in a bit.
