I think Dennis realised he went too far but Iain is doing what all people pleasers do and taking the blame for something that wasn’t his fault.

Exactly, Ian is being a people pleaser and taking the blame fir sketching that isn't his fault at all to try and keep a harmonious environment. But this makes Dennis think that he was justified.

Why is Amir being vindicated by Dennis? So is the fact Amir has lost more than his fair share of brain cells in the boxing ring (ie he didn't understand, WTF) more of an excuse to pull out of a trial than Iain being too tall to do something safely? Nasty bully boy tactics.
