Peaky Blinders - did people really shag in the street in broad daylight in 1919??

Thought I'd give this a go having heard good reviews, so watched first episode of series 1 last night. It was good, if a little grim, but I was a bit to see people shagging in the street. Really?

I think so. They closed some of the tunnels off canals throughout the Midlands because of prostitutes collating there. Also, I think I remember my great uncle saying a few of them in Brum were known as lovers lane type spots and this was is in the fortues!
