Will anyone be watching?

Yes, can’t wait! Only just read the book and loved it.

GetHappy · 13/11/2017 20:35

Oh good. I haven’t read book but looking forward to this

Just put it on, looks really good. Didn’t know it was a book.

GetHappy · 13/11/2017 21:18

Good watch so far

Watching. Loved the book. Love Sathnam. Like it so far, although the London interiors are a bit too glossy.

eddiemairswife · 13/11/2017 21:33

Lovely book. Everyone living and working in Wolverhampton should read it. Not quite sure where the leafy glade he and his dad were walking through is.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 13/11/2017 21:35

Watching, good so far....

Hepzibar · 13/11/2017 22:01

Hooked. Finding it very interesting, my colleague is Indian and in a similar situation. Hard to understand but this gives an insight into her struggle.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 13/11/2017 22:34

I really enjoyed that, will look out for the book as well.

Trailedanderror · 13/11/2017 22:36

It's very thoughtful.

Trailedanderror · 13/11/2017 22:37

(I paused it, so still watching)

Backingvocals · 13/11/2017 22:41

loved it. How tough things were for his mum. Loved how she was determined not to understand about the girlfriend...

Also the mixed heritage - George Michael, Kylie, chocolate bars.

TheRollingCrone · 13/11/2017 23:40

Cried my eyes out. I know the little boy who played young Sathnam so have been waiting - what a brilliant portrayal of family secrets, interracial relationships and properly growing up!
Still feel tearful. Loved it

thaikunyum · 13/11/2017 23:42

Absolutely loved it. Seem to be finding lots of British stuff I really like nowadays and I can relate loads more to it than glossy American shit.

Braveanddifferent · 13/11/2017 23:45

Lovwd it, went to Uni in Wolverhampton and felt quite nostalgic.

maras2 · 14/11/2017 00:05

Loved it.
Great acting,I think there may be a BAFTA or two coming.

Slartybartfast · 14/11/2017 21:08

Sounds like a good recommendation

YouthsAStuffWillNotEndure · 15/11/2017 19:50

I have not read the book which I suppose might be why it seemed underwritten to me - also a little slow. And the ending with the girlfriend felt out of place & tacked on, taking the focus away from his words about his family.

Polarbearflavour · 16/11/2017 19:58

I liked it. It was very close to home though (about a previous relationship) and I miss some Punjabi culture. Quite sad.

But I liked that ending. Mine wasn’t a happy ending.

Slartybartfast · 16/11/2017 21:51

It was a good watch

Slartybartfast · 16/11/2017 22:00

The Boy With the Topknot – top notch with a dash of schmaltz

Slartybartfast · 16/11/2017 22:01

Agree with the corny comment though

eddiemairswife · 16/11/2017 22:35

I live there. Taught at a primary school where over 90% of our intake came from the local Asian community, and when I read the book a few years ago was bowled over by the familiarity of the background that the majority of our children came from. I was gripped by the TV production, especially by the portrayal of his mother. She deserves an award.

DorothyHarris · 17/11/2017 07:43

I thought this was great, the best thing I've watched on the telly for a while. Sacha Dhawan was great in it I really felt for him the whole time.

ShoesHaveSouls · 21/11/2017 01:18

Just caught it on iplayer. I loved it - beautiful and heartbreaking. I proper ugly cried.
