West Wing - how soon is too soon??

Should I start re-watching the West Wing? Even though I only finished the final episode last week??

I watched it when it was on originally and loved it but the end of Sorkin writing it and me going travelling coincided so I didn’t end up watching the final couple of series.

Then a few months ago I decided to re-watch it because the political situation in America was getting me down (no idea why!) and I finished series 7 (btw LOVED series 6&7!) last week.

And now I feel bereft! I’ve got plenty of other things to catch up on but I’m really mourning the loss of Josh all the characters. And I want to know WIBU to start it all over again?! Or does that make me a really sad sack?

I try to wait at least 9m between watchings. so works out no more than once a year, but it does depend on whether DH is watching it with me or if I'm just watching it on my iPad while doing other things.
It is a serious thing you are right to give t proper thought!!!

Every day I seem to manage to flick to Sky Atlantic just when TWW is on.

I always end up watching it, even though I have the full 7 series on DVD with no commercial breaks...

Thanks for the suggestion, 2014newme but DW and I watch HoC together and we’re up to date. Love that show.

TWW is more my guilty pleasure alone. I watch it on the iPad with my Bluetooth headphones and it makes all manner of boring household tasks - ironing, putting washing away, cleaning the kitchen, eating lunch, etc! - much more interesting!

Sloane I’ll have a look for the podcast, thanks. That might be just the thing to keep me going until a more appropriate length of time has passed...

I can’t rewatch at the moment because it’s too depressing with what’s actually happening. I used to believe that despite the party, the president was an honourable post. Even the worst of Bill Clinton had me cringing less than I do every day at the moment.

But I have both rewatched it in its entirety and also just spot watched certain favourite episodes. Or sometimes one episode from each series.

We got to the final episode and went right back to the start.

I enjoyed it more the second time, I noticed loads more of the comedy.

Might give it a fourth go after Christmas...

Another vote for rewatching straight away. Its one of the few DVDs which is kept under the TV rather than in the cupboard. Noticed loads more second time round, as PP said and still love the execution when when i know the plots. Brilliant. A different world.

I watch it again as soon as I've finished! The DVDs are always easily to hand but I am recording the Sky Atlantic showings at the moment and watching them in bed when I can't sleep!

I think I watch it 5/6 times a year, easily. No other tv series comes close and I find it an immense comfort given the hideousness that is the current American political reality.

YADNBU. And agree with Sloane (excellent name BTW), listen to the West Wing Weekly podcast as an accompaniment next time you start watching, it's the best.

But I also loved The Good Wife, Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. Have you tried those?

I have the whole box set. Might just be our Christmas binge fest this year!

I would break it up with the only series Of studio sixty in the sunset strip. Not nearly as good, but a little palate cleanser (and won't take long). You can note all the similarities and then rewatch the west wing next week.

I so so wanted to love the newsroom. On paper, I was going to so I eagerly settled in.

Sadly it was just too loud shouty-drama. Everyone seemed to walk round like they were auditioning for an opera.

I’ve found my people!

Thanks for the other series suggestions - I’ve seen the Newsroom and loved it (was gutted it was only 3 short seasons), ditto the Good Wife (have considered re-watching that at some stage) and Breaking Bad. I’ve resisted GoT so far because it’s so far from my usual type of series - is it really worth trying, Diana? I’m not sure I can get on board with the medieval fantasy violence genre!

I’m currently watching the new series of Madam Secretary but having a little foot stamp at the beginning of each episode because it’s such a poor cousin to TWW!

Right, so my plan is to watch Studio 60 and then march straight back to TWW with the accompanying podcasts. That should slow me down a bit at least!
