Name this old TV series

It was on in the 70s or maybe early 80s - it was set in a post nuclear bomb England where most people have died. Some people have survived and head to the countryside and try to live with not much infrastructer, etc.

I've never seen it but my mum was talking about how much she loved it and I'm trying to see if there is a dvd set?

If sounds a bit like Day of the Triffids. I remember lots of people living off what they could find, but that doesn't fit in with the nuclear bomb thing.

I watched 1 episode called MAD DOG and had very real nightmares for YEARS and blardy YEARS. and I was then scared witless of dogs.
