I've always wondered...do they need your permission before they feature you on the show. I know that they covertly film with their body cams but do people actually know that they are going to be on the telly and if so is their anything they can do to stop it?

I ask because sometimes their full names are used and surely this may have an impact of getting to rent another place in the future or even employment! Also it's just plain embarrassing!

It's not really covert filming though is it - it's very obvious that the people are wearing cameras. There's a similar show on BBC and often the business owner will ask the camera crew to leave, which they do, and film from the street.

I'm wondering whether they know that the footage is going to end up on tv though and whether they need to give permission or not? Or can Channel 5 just go ahead and put them on the TV?

I wouldn't have thought so... Maybe ask on the legal board?

Maybe channel 5 give incentives eg, we can pay 25% of your debt if you feature on this ?

@Nandoshoes hmmm maybe but then that doesn't explain those people who clear their debts in full during the episode. What is their incentive?...I guess I'll never know.lol

Things like Benefits Street are different - people are asked in advance whether they consent to being filmed. With any sort of real life thing like 24 hours in A&E or Can't Pay, you don't have that option to ask in advance.

I certainly wouldn't want my personal business broadcast on telly like that for everyone to see.

That's what makes me think its staged, tbh.
I mean surely to God all that name dropping ect and showing people on TV on such sensitive matters severely breaks confidentiality.
Yes okay occasionally faces are blurred out, but if you knew that person you'd know who it was.
