Is Dr. Who suitable for 7yr old and 4yyr old boys?

I have been quite strict so far saying they are too young to watch it.
But they are desparate to watch this new series, and most of the boys in Ds1 class seem to watch it.

I am actually more worried about Ds1 watching it, than DS2, as he is the more sensitive/susceptible type.

What sgould I do?

I haven't really watched it myself, I just remember being scared myself as a child. How scary is it?

I've got to make a decision before 7.oopm this evening!!

there was a thread on this for 3yr olds and most opinions were no!!!
However my 3.5yr old watches it and loves it and puts Dr who in with spiderman and superman etc.

I am normally quite cautious about what I'd let the kids watch, but I'd let a 4 yr old watch dr who. some episodes are a bit scarey though.

My 'extremely over sensitive scared by everything' 8 year old daughter has been watching it since it was reinvented this time round, so she'd have been 6 ish then I guess.

She loves it, and if she gets scared she just leaves the room for a minute or two till the scary bits are finished.

if you look here (it's a link to the bbc doctor who website) they get children to rate the episodes each week for Fear Factor.

This week's one (which does look quite scary for kids) is rated a 4 (out of 5) so pretty scary.

Well, I have a girl of 7 and a boy of 4, and they both love it. I think as long as they know it is fantasy they are fine. The most upsetting thing they have seen on it was Rose leaving to live in a parallel universe! That made DD cry - the death and destruction didn't upset her at all!!

zippi, TOTALLY disagree about the Americanised thing. It couldn't be more British! Yes, it has high production values but it's still got that "hectic menace and humorous self-mockery" of the 70s stories.

MIne are 5& 7 nd both love it like UQDs dd Dds cried for Rose leaving rather than the monsters.Tonights does look scary so may not be the best one to start them on though.Think next weeks won't be too bad but its on later 'cos of the football.

i video it so they can watch it tomorrow. they have seen them all, but ds2 cant watch the cybermen or the absorbaloff before bed, it has kept him awake cos they are too scary.

my almost 7 and almost 6 year olds love it.i wouldnt let them at first but we tried as they really wanted too see it.we always make sure with with them though-scares me a bit sometimes but im a wimp.

It is fine. My 6 year old and his nearly three year old sister watch it and my DS is obsessed. It is great as it is the one programme we all watch as a family and love.

My 7 year old ds and 4 year old dd both love it.

Dd only got upset last year about the 'oods'. That truly is the one and only time Dr Who gave her nightmares. (mind you she was only 3.5 then...) We did then try to get her to bed before Dr Who was on but she was having none of it. She loves Dr Who.

I was a bit worried about the witches in tonights episode, but she did not bat an eyelid, and happily went off to bed.

I must stress though, if it wasn't for ds watching it we would never let dd watch it...

my 2.4year old ds LOOOVVEES it so much. He wasn't so impressed with tonights but he wasn't scared of the witches.Why not tape it watch it yourself first then you can decide if it's too scary or not?

My son is 10 and watches it with his dad. When I saw it at first I was worried as i was concerned over some of the baddies. He loves it yet he still wont go on the snow white ride in Disneyland. WIERD ? (anyone else have children who won't go on his ride). I now he is alot more older than your children, however Dr who is obvously pretty awesome, my son has a bond thing with his dad watching it which is fantastic....bless

MY kids are 5.4 and 3.6 and they both love it. Dd is the youngest and she loves it!

my youngest (5) was scared and hiding behind a cushion last night! He was feeling a bit poorly though. I LOVE this series and the new Doctor and Martha. Its the only thing on TV that we all watch together as a family.

my oldest is the sensitive type to but they all watch it, DH and DS'S doesnt seem to have caused any problems

personally and I know I am going to be told off for this I think its utter rubbish

I am only brave enough to type it on here because said out loud gets me a lecture from the children

Well actually 4 yearold watched avidly and 7 year old watched from behind couch!
So be guided by child!

So what did you decide Psycho?

My dts (age 5) love Doctor Who, I did worry about the content of some episodes but I was older than them and was scared of Daleks and Cybermen, they are not.

Last nights was a bit scary for dts2 but as Doctor Who always gets rid of the baddies then I suppose they think it is okay. Strangely though they are both scared of Harry Potter, won't even let me read them the books yet.
