She's what my DH calls a "creaking gate". Someone who smokes and drinks (allegedly) and parties and lives until they're 97. In fact, Ken Barlow's about 97 now, isn't he?

class bit of casting having Blanche as Dreary's mum and also Amy as a Tracey mini-me.

I could be wrong, but I think that the actress who plays Deirdre had some form of tumour removed from her neck years ago, and she gave up smoking then.

Whether she has started again in rl or is just acting with the fags, I don't know, but it looked fairly realistic to me.
