Another Williams brothers' collaboration - which is competing with Liar tonight!

"A serial killer thriller told in reverse, unravelling the truth behind a series of murders as DCI Gabriel Markham hunts down a brutal killer."

The lead character is played by Beric from Game of Thrones (Richard Dormer). Sounds very good. Anyone watching this? Leave your reviews below.

Found it gripping - just me, going by this thread !

Teddygirlonce · 17/09/2017 10:36

@Clawdy I liked it but rather tired when I first watched it so my befuddled brain couldn't quite 'get' the present/backwards/forwards style. May need to rewatch episode 1 to see if it makes more sense second time around (confident that it will do so!).

flatpopcrapcrisps · 17/09/2017 10:42

It isn't Pulp Fiction, but you can see that was sort of where they were heading.

flatpopcrapcrisps · 17/09/2017 10:44

I thought the casting was crap too, very very cliched, the stunning young copper banging her older gravel voiced boss? Nope. The handsome harsh but fair commanding officer? Nope.

More Hinterland please.

gingina · 17/09/2017 12:20

I got 10 minutes in and gave up. Why do so many dramas these days film scenes in the dark so you can barely make out who's who? And they all mumble so you can't hear anything either!!!
It's just hard work trying to see and hear it without all the reversing and fast forwarding!!!

ticklady · 18/09/2017 22:02

I'm more confused than before now. What about the couple, (guy with glasses, covered in blood) who got on a plane last week. Doesn't make sense any of it!!!

myusernameisnotmyusername · 18/09/2017 22:13

I don't even remember that. I'm seriously thinking of giving up on this but want reassurance I'm not being thick! I honestly don't think it makes any sense.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 18/09/2017 22:16

I gave it a try tonight.

gave up 20 minutes in.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 18/09/2017 22:18

It's not just me then Grin

myusernameisnotmyusername · 18/09/2017 22:22

I've just read that episodes 2-5 go even further back beyond episode 1 then the last episode goes back to episode 1. Does that help anyone?

noradurst · 18/09/2017 22:37

I don't think either he or his staggeringly young girlfriend were in this episode. Also, when was he covered in blood?

Did anyone else see the picture of the older blonde woman on the glasses guy's desk when he and his girlfriend were talking in episode 1? I wonder who that could be. His wife? Ex-wife? Mother?

i was really bored yesterday while watching and switched to Liar after 20 min or so. Liked Liar quite a lot. I found rewing really annoying.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 20/09/2017 21:09

Just watched on catch up. So confused.

When it says "3 hours earlier" does that mean 3 hours earlier than the first bit of episode 1, 3 hours earlier than end of last scene, 3 hours earlier than beginning of last scene..?

danTDM · 21/09/2017 12:21

I am totally lost. My glass of wine made it worse, but I watched it anyway as I like the main guy in it.

But it is the most confusing series ever, my heart always sinks with scenes that say 'x hours earlier'. They did it with Billions recently and quite a few other good series. Sad Grin

I'm not clever enough!

myusernameisnotmyusername · 21/09/2017 13:53

Black suit good point. I'd assumed it meant 3 hours earlier that the original 3 hours. Like in that scene with the couple who got engaged. Then that rewound to earlier and he found out she was pregnant. That rewound later and it turned out he was about to dump her.

DrawingLife · 23/09/2017 00:53

I could just about tolerate the scrambling of the story, though it feels contrived. It's the character writing that make it unwatchable. Suicidal maniac hero whose pain we're apparently expected to sympathise with while he beats up women suspects. Gorgeous posh sightly psycho cop mistress happy with whatever scraps he gives her (including disgusting sex), ice queen wife, OCD psychiatrist who doesn't disclose murder confessions (don't they have to?). Give me a break from the male fantasy BS!

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 25/09/2017 19:03

Drawing,
"...OCD psychiatrist who doesn't disclose murder confessions (don't they have to?)."

Not sure if same ruling applies to Psychiatrists, but Psychologists seem to have the dilemma of weighing up client confidentiality/ trust issue/ therapeutic benefits vs likelihood of future criminal acts and being of danger to others.
So, no, they apparently aren't automatically obliged to report admissions of past crime.

Interesting feature (and comments below) here:

myusernameisnotmyusername · 25/09/2017 21:17

Anyone watching?

holidayqueriwifi · 25/09/2017 21:34

Just us then! Was hoping someone here would help me figure out what's happening.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 25/09/2017 22:08

Ha ha. Thought it was just me for a minute!

Clawdy · 25/09/2017 22:42

Gruesome tonight, but it is quite gripping! Will carry on watching till the end!

noradurst · 25/09/2017 22:57

Okay I will admit that I was totally Shock at that last scene, and it takes quite a lot to shock me. I did not expect to see them shagging.

Also, I was "surprised" she was his stepdaughter because she looks like him. I wonder if when they were cast, they actually were meant to play father and daughter, and this was the "too grim" twist that the Williams brothers had to cut? shiver

myusernameisnotmyusername · 25/09/2017 23:01

Ooh Noradurst that's interesting! I have to say I enjoyed tonight's more than the previous ones and I'm glad I persevered with it!

DubiousCredentials · 26/09/2017 13:34

I'm also glad I stuck with it as I really had to force myself through last weeks episode. Am loving it now though. Real ShockShock when she whacked her mum round the head. I absolutely love how nothing is what it seems. Although I wish Gabriel was a bit more pleasant and there wasn't so much shagging.

FawnDrench · 26/09/2017 14:32

I think it's got better with each episode and it's become must-watch for me anyway.

All the different characters hiding something and all the different levels of deceit, plotting and scheming going on - I am hooked.
