Hi,

So I LOVED series 1. Brilliantly written, acted and directed. The dinner party scene! Shock Amazing!

Was really excited to hear series 2 was starting tonight. However, I'm hearing it's really really dark and a bit twisted. Quite honestly, I'm sick of dark and twisted and just want something gripping and entertaining- like the first one! Well, just don't watch it, I hear you cry Wink Well yes, but I'm just really hoping it doesn't turn into another disturbing drama which automatically includes sexual violence, for example, as a norm.

I can handle dark, but maybe not by today's standards Confused

Maybe I'll download Lark Rise to Candleford instead Grin

So who else is going to be watching?

Its tonight???

Thank goodness I saw this thread or I'd have missed it! Shock

Therealslimshady1 · 05/09/2017 18:37

I hate how everything has to be "dark" (ie graphic child abuse, rape etc)

It's a sick world to serve up abused and raped kids (or young women) for entertainment, over and over again.

Trollspoopglitter · 05/09/2017 18:39

Well the ending of series 1 was utterly shite (and it got there gradually) so let's see if they've figured out what they're doing Hmm

Not sure I can be bothered. I never really believed in her as a GP she seemed far too flakey and the plot got silly. The Guardian on Sat made it sound as though it's all about revenge and wronged women which sounds very cliched. If my husband wanted to live with another woman I'd rather he went. I don't get this wanting someone to be miserable just because they don't fancy you any more stuff. We now live a long time and I think the quality of a relationship is more important than its duration. There's lots of cycling to watch on ITV 4.

I want to smash Simon's face in.

Kate is welcome to him.

Istoletherainbow · 05/09/2017 21:22

I'm recording this.

Let me know how dark and twisted it is Hmm

I'd forgotten what an arse Simon is.

icelollycraving · 05/09/2017 22:15

His character seems so different though. He was basically a lying cowardly test who in the end battered her. In this one, he is taunting her in a way he didn't last time.
Where have they gained that money?!

2rebecca · 05/09/2017 22:18

I watched 10min in the middle and found her more of a PITA. If this is 2 years down the line she's still way too invested in him, agree that he seems a pillock who isn't worth it. I quite liked the way the new wife tackled her by being upfront and confrontational. Are we meant to sympathise/ empathise with Dr Foster? She's no less annoying in this series than last time.

wizzywig · 06/09/2017 15:16

Is there a spoiler thread for the first series?

Offred · 06/09/2017 21:29

I enjoy it. I enjoyed the first episode of the second series but I love dark.

Thing that strikes me (again) is that the character fits a lot of the characteristics for borderline personality disorder.

I think since I realised that it has been a lot better because there was plenty I wasn't comfortable with about the things that were portrayed in series 1 mainly because people seemed to be doing a lot of 'yeah! Go! Fucking men!' About the really quite scary level of crazy she was displaying.

Simon's a bad man who does bad things but Gemma is actually disordered. The lasting impression the first series gave me was 'poor Tom with parents like that'.

whatAREyouwatching · 07/09/2017 11:23

We watched it last night.

Much as i empathise, she is making me cringe with her deranged behaviour and refusal to move on.

I can't stand Simon and his new wife is a manipulative and self-obsessed brat, but that poor kid, I'm not surprised he has legged it to the parent who seems (at least to him) to be more stable.

Offred · 07/09/2017 11:36

I think that's what I hoped the second series would do though TBH. Make it obvious that she is actually the one that is deranged. That Simon is weak and pathetic but human but Gemma is actually disordered and dangerous.

I think in the first series this was maybe too subtle for many people to pick up on because it played into their revenge fantasies re cheating spouses. I hope this series focusses on the real life consequences of acting on those fantasies and shows how Gemma's behaviour actually comes from her having a disordered personality.

We've been set up for it to go that way I think with all the history of her childhood etc and the craziness re Simon and Kate.

Therealslimshady1 · 07/09/2017 20:59

I find her character and lines utterly unbelievable

Was she created and written by a man?

missyB1 · 07/09/2017 21:02

Totally unbelievable and frankly embarrassing to watch Hmm

Therealslimshady1 · 07/09/2017 21:57

It was hard to watch, but I still watched it Grin

JustDanceAddict · 07/09/2017 22:36

She is definitely the more disturbed/annoying one. He's horrible too but she is a complete fruit loop. Why dissolve a ring?!?!

EachandEveryone · 07/09/2017 23:40

Ins ridiculous but good property porn. Has anyone actually been to a garden lime that with fairy lights and tree houses? Who lives like that? Has she been there before? The way she kept saying the house name was it their old home?

I've started re watching this on Netflix and it's absolutely ridiculous. I don't think there was a woman involved in the writing process. The scene where she goes to his house as soon as he tells her where it is. The scene where she goes to their bedroom to have a snoop and the silly, silly grin on Suranne Jones' face. She's absolutely deranged. I mean they're all awful, Simon being the worst.
