The mothers have an unhealthy baby/miscarriage? Would they be met with comfort or blamed for the complications?

I don't think there would be any comfort, but otoh, miscarriage and issues with the baby are so very common in their world that they wouldn't be blamed, it would be a case of move on and conceive another as soon as possible

In the novel, any 'unbabies', i.e. disabled or not white ended up in the shredder
