Child Neglect Case on 999 What's Your Emergency.

So police documentary thing.

Police find a 14yo boy who's been left home alone while his mum has gone to Spain for a week. However the next door neighbour is keeping an eye on him as is his nan down the road. Mum has left him with a bank card and ready meals for the week. Boy seems perfectly happy but is bunking off school.

Police say they can't leave him there and take him to a relatives house and then interview his mum on her return. Police officer seemed really hacked off and was saying he could have come to harm.

I wish the mum had asked the police officer what harm. If he hurts himself he goes to the neighbour, if the hose catches fire he gets out tells the neighbour......

Police did say they didn't prosecute the mum as there wasn't enough evidence that it was neglect.

Must admit I wouldn't have done it myself. Am just about to leave my 16yo home alone overnight for the first time and it will be just for one night! But was surprised by how angry the police officer seemed.

He's a child. Parents are responsible for children and shouldn't be buggering off to Spain without them. Of course he's going to bunk off school. What harm?? Where to start

Not as awful as the mum who when the police returned her 3 year old who'd been found wandering the streets late at night barely even said anything when they pitched up with him.

It came across like she couldn't have given less of a shit. I appreciate it happens (it happened to my mum with my brother when he was 3!) but I'd be frantic the second I'd realise rather than the meh she gave. Sad he was such a sweet little chap!

Yes I was a bit shocked by the 3yo but I guess if they sneak out the house and you haven't realised then you don't have the chance to panic. I would have been majorly apologetic and grovelling to the police though!

That poor dad with the autistic daughter!

The woman leaving the 14 year old was feckless at the very least.

3 year old mother was totally emotionless wasn't she? And dad, 'I was upstairs watching ..err, stuff on my phone' 😳
