Fuming! CGI is ruining classic Children's television!

I thought I'd get up early with my DD to reset our body clocks for school. Innocently stuck milkshake on the TV. I am aghast......

What in God's name has happened to my old favourites?!! Bob the builder, Fireman Sam, THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE, and God knows what other atrocities will be on before the morning is out... Almost in tears at how sterile and soulless these now are. Surely children want their cartoons to be cartoons? If they wanted to watch more realistic looking shows they would watch adult tv. These new ones hurt my eyes.

Why do all the characters look the same and move so creepily and slowly? Why isn't there a channel of exclusively non CGI programmes, even if it consisted of old versions? Having a new baby soon and seriously considering starting to stock up on old DVDs and sheltering them from this computer generated shit..

I weep for my kids, looks like my older DS was the last to experience them in their proper cartoon or stop frame form. Whyyyyyy

This annoys me with films. I prefer kids (and other) films with real actors. Rare as hens teeth now. CGI shite is obviously way cheaper to make.

OohLookASquirrel · 31/08/2017 07:04

You can still find the old ones on YouTube. DD and I watched old Thomas yesterday. She did say that she preferred the new one though.

pradathescammer · 31/08/2017 07:07

Is it worth being 'fuming' over?

IheartCaptainHolt · 31/08/2017 07:11

The new fireman Sam is awful. I completely agree with you OP

bellaboo101 · 31/08/2017 07:13

I know! What happened to tots tv and Rosie and Jim?!
The programmes I see now are mind numbing.

DottyBlue2 · 31/08/2017 07:15

Is Fireman Sam still Norman's Dad?

readyforno2 · 31/08/2017 07:23

I completely agree, especially Thomas. I HATE the new Thomas it's not the same

readyforno2 · 31/08/2017 07:24

Yes Dotty I'm pretty sure Sam still is Norman's Dad

SkafaceClaw · 31/08/2017 07:36

I hear you!

I was astonished too but I think most of the original ones you have listed are on Amazon Prime and I tend to put them on every now and then if only because I love Ringo's voice.

ponderingprobably · 31/08/2017 07:38

Can you link up YouTube to your tv? All the old classics are on there. See if your DC like them.

heavenlypink · 31/08/2017 08:43

@DottyBlue2 I'd forgotten about that rumour Grin

HelenaHannDeCarte · 31/08/2017 18:25

It's definitely worth being fuming over, Prada! Classic, much loved TV shows that so much time n effort went into, being butchered and their name blackened just so the producers of the new crap can make a bit of money. How are the original writers OK with this happening?! Not only that, but it can't be good for the attention spans of our children to be watching CGI everything where the frame changes every three seconds .. It doesn't foster their imagination if it looks too real. It's confusing too, in Fireman Scam this morning my daughter was asking why there were three Sams on screen. It was a valid question given that three characters looked identical and the confusion of the storyline didn't help matters! Norman could be anyone's son now they're all creepy clones..

I will stop moaning anyway, do as a poster said above and limit the kids to old YouTube n Amazon versions, plus stock up on some DVDs of good old shows!

I agree. Caught a bit of Bob the builder 👷🏻 the other day. Terrible. Can you imagine what they'd do to Mr Benn. Doesn't bear thinking about 😔 🐻

SallyOMalley · 31/08/2017 18:32

Many of the Mr Benn episodes are on YouTube. My kids love it!

I won't have anything said against the new Danger Mouse on CNBC though. Alexander Armstrong does the narration and it's so funny. New series starts Monday!

SallyOMalley · 31/08/2017 18:32

Sorry, *CBBC !

HelenaHannDeCarte · 31/08/2017 21:35

Wow this is informative! Thank you. I'll have a look at the old Mr Benn and check out the new Dangermoise! The graphics might annoy me but if they've got a good cast, maybe some soul went into it..

Have decided to be proactive and I've been through a lot of kids prime stuff on Amazon, and created a watch list of free series and films for my DCs which includes animated non CGI cartoons, plus some old classics, and gentle Julia Donaldson things etc. I gladly skipped past all of the hideous cheap remakes. Someone said above they found a lot of old children's classics on Prime, they aren't on the main page so advice for what to search for would be welcome! Thank you all so much! Glad I'm not alone...

Whoah there! Fireman Sam is Norman's dad? How did I miss this? I know he's uncle to the two other kids but I watched that programme for years - both old and new version - without getting any inkling. Am going to have to persuade DS (now 7) to watch them again and see if we missed the signs...

mangomama91 · 01/09/2017 00:54

Just wait until you see Noddy then!!!'n ShockShock

TheDrsDocMartens · 01/09/2017 06:40

My son hates new Bob, he thinks he doesn't look happy anymore.

NerrSnerr · 01/09/2017 06:47

If you have Amazon Prime the old ones are on there.

Shadow666 · 01/09/2017 06:47

I don't know. It must have taken forever to make these cartoons in the old days. The old stop motion stuff. I guess CGI is much cheaper and easier.

Minesril · 02/09/2017 21:20

I prefer new thomas (ducks) the old ones were creepy the way their faces only changed expression when the camera moved!

Urglewurgle · 02/09/2017 21:24

THERE'S NEW DANGERMOUSE!????!?

You'd be proud of my DS, OP, when the new style Thomas started they'd alternate between old and New on a morning.

If he saw the children waving on the bridge (not the model kids with their hands stuck in the air) he'd say he didn't want to watch it.

At 4 he was committed to the original.
