right now?

I find myself confused that the Syrian Asylum Seekers are living on the streets abd the single mother doesn't get enough benefits to feed herself. It's really shocking.

Yes it's an odd programme. But it's moving me to tears!

SleepFreeZone · 08/08/2017 22:01

Yep I've just cried too 😭

I feel for them all, is he going to give them the flat or just let them live there?

vickibee · 09/08/2017 06:18

Give it away I think. Everyone is needy it is truly horrible to be in their situation

honeysucklejasmine · 09/08/2017 06:22

I didn't watch this, but I wondered from the trailer... It appears there's more than one family group in the running for this house... So what happened to the people he didn't choose? Any help for them at all?

Eleventybillionfucks · 09/08/2017 06:24

All i could think is how is an unemployed teen mum going to afford council tax on that 3 bed when she's unemployed ? Along with all the other usual bills on top of that and i doubt she will be able to keep her benefits as she is now a homeowner outright which the council will view as her not needing help surely Confused it just seems like this magic man has just given her even more money woes she's yet to realise. Not to mention once she starts work she'll have the massive childcare bill to pick up too even without rent or a mortgage to pay she'll be cutting it slim every month

DubiousCredentials · 09/08/2017 08:35

We thought the same. Presumably her rent was being covered by housing benefit on the one bed she was living in? So her outgoings won't be any less, in fact they'll be more due to council tax being higher, bigger place to heat etc Plus I think I saw storage heaters in the new place which aren't the most economical form of heating. So unless he's covering her bills, she will still have the same £50 a week to live on, less increased outgoings Confused

I wondered if her mum would be able to help with childcare now she was only five mins away, but presumably she was working too? Who knows.

Honeysuckle he did help the other two shortlisted families - he gave the woman who had eyesight problems the money for a deposit on her own place (although not sure how this would really help long term as she was worried about how long she'd be able to keep working - so a 25yr mortgage just a small issue maybe?) and he was allowing the refugee family to live in one of his properties while their asylum appeal was reviewed.

dottypotter · 09/08/2017 15:00

we have a man playing god showing off trying to get his name across on TV, would he have done it if it hadn't been on TV?????

How much of set up what is, did the TV company pay towards it, did they pay him.

Why give it to a single mum as well what has she done apart from get pregnant, she didn't even need 3 bedrooms, and diddums she didn't live near her mum loads of people don't live near parents. will the dad appear now she has a home? The lady losing her sight was deserving I thought but again didn't need 3 bedrooms?

Eleventybillionfucks · 09/08/2017 15:41

I think the teen mum was genuinely struggling and deserved it but id have liked to have seen the blind woman get it also
Im glad he didnt give it to the refugees as they aren't established in this country yet so had no money to pay any bills or anything but im glad he helped them on their way nonetheless

Eleventybillionfucks · 09/08/2017 15:44

If you watched hollys story also you notice she didnt get pregnant on purpose it was purely an accident due to medication and she is very bright and on her way to university hopefully where as living miles from her family in that mouldy flat with no friends or family or anyone for support was putting her and Beth in serious danger of falling through the cracks and coming to harm. Grow a brain dotty.

dottypotter · 09/08/2017 16:40

why the rudeness just because I don't agree although looking at your username says a lot. There are loads of single mums with a story and how would he know the truth anyway about the conception.
How does he know she wont just have another baby or mover her partner in. Also she didn't need 3 bedrooms and the flat would have been hard to get a pushchair up the stairs. Mould in one room in a flat which could have been treated. No doubt the next thing is she will want a garden for child.

At least the blind lady was working but had a disability like I said only publicity for him otherwise why was it on TV. Ask him to do it without the cameras around. Stupid people building peoples hopes up and showing off, oooh look at me I own loads of propertys.

But why we're the asylum seekers living on the streets and why didntvtje single Mum have enough money to eat anything more than pasta?

OP posts:
Eleventybillionfucks · 09/08/2017 17:31

Because this country is broken and on its knees that's why.

purpleme12 · 09/08/2017 22:10

Did you hear the asylum seekers were offered accommodation but just not together? And because they wanted to stay together they then chose to go homeless and therefore sleep on church floors and outside when the church isn't open? Well so they chose to go homeless then. I mean sure it's better to live together but surely living apart with a roof over your head is preferable to being homeless? Which I'm guessing would also be better than the situation they fled in Syria surely. So after that they lost my sympathy regarding getting this house.

MeanAger · 09/08/2017 22:18

How does he know she wont just have another baby or mover her partner in.

Erm, why shouldn't she have another baby or move a partner in if she wants? It is her flat. He gave it no strings attached. Do you expect her to stay a single parent forever because a man did a nice thing when she needed help? Is she supposed to stay in her "poor single mum" box forever?

MeanAger · 09/08/2017 22:20

It would have been very silly to give the flat to the Syrian family without them having any idea whether they were going to be able to stay in the country.

purpleme12 · 09/08/2017 22:31

That way my first thought as well when they first came on meanager

Nellyphants · 09/08/2017 22:48

Meanager I thought he was giving the flat so the young woman could 'better' herself? He did say something about she has loads of potential & he doesn't want to be let down? She talked about missing her chance for college, the flat was to help her get to college?

MeanAger · 09/08/2017 22:51

Yes he did say that. She is still allowed to have a partner and family whilst doing that.

Eleventybillionfucks · 09/08/2017 23:19

Holly said wants to be a journalist which is brilliant but sadly i don't think she has the friends or support to achieve it and even with this flat its worrying the DWP and council could use it against her and leave her with nothing to run it and if she does get back into college i doubt she'll have the childcare and support to stay there. Her mother came across as just been there for the camera's if you ask me, i was gobsmacked when holly said she was stuck in that little flat all by herself with the baby 24/7 apart from a walk to the shops to keep her sanity and it made me Hmm towards her mother tbh if it was my child isolated 5 miles away with no help or support id5 move heaven and earth to get over there everyday to help out and get her out of the house

Eleventybillionfucks · 09/08/2017 23:21

I thought holly also had a look of post natal depression about her too which wouldn't suprise me. The whole situation is just desperate and sad and holly won't be the only mum all by herself in this situation either there's thousands up and down the country yet the government couldn't give a crap Angry

MeanAger · 09/08/2017 23:23

Yes I suspect the flat will be considered an asset worth £XXXXXX and will leave holly entitled to nothing to live on. Having said that, if she were to go to university near where she lives (Preston? Is there a university near there?) she would have no housing cost to pay and may be eligible for a grant for childcare costs as a lone parent whilst she studied.

Eleventybillionfucks · 09/08/2017 23:27

Yes its preston i think they have a university or there is Manchester Uni. I can honestly see this all going horribly wrong for her and it isnt her fault

Eleventybillionfucks · 09/08/2017 23:30

I think he said the flat is worth 120k
