I recorded Season 3 on sky a long time ago and when I started watching it seemed I should watch Seasons 1 and 2 first.
Finally got around to it last week and wow.
Dark, creepy, gripping and beautifully acted. I love Gillian Anderson.
I've never binge watched anything before but I can't wait to find out how this ends.

It's brilliant. Except the third series. That's dreadful.

Anderson is amazing.

cookielove · 03/08/2017 17:24

I loved it

WandaOff · 03/08/2017 17:30

Third series dreadful? Oh no!
I am almost finished series 2.
I've never seen GA in anything else.

Don't listen to that The Fall has never been dreadful. Best thing on telly.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 04/08/2017 11:59

It's excellent. Gillian Anderson is fantastic in it.

Any other recommendations from The Fall fans? Always in the look out for good stuff.

Notreallyarsed · 04/08/2017 11:59

It's bloody brilliant, I came to it late and binge watched the lot. Jamie Dornan is absolutely terrifying! Love love love Gillian Anderson!

CarrieErbag · 04/08/2017 12:05

Third series is awful, Gillian Anderson is dreadful.
She is in Hannibal, she's like a Jessica Rabbit parody all breathy and pouty, positively cringeworthy.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/08/2017 12:06

It's fabulous, but I couldn't get through the first series as it gave me terrible, vivid nightmares. I started waking up at 2am thinking 'he's in the house' and then I couldn't get back to sleep. Jamie Dornan is truly scary, he completely nails that bland, nice, family man thing. He's just like so many perfectly pleasant men that I know, except when he's not. I can sort of deal with scary if it's very removed from my life, but suburban Belfast is not that different from suburban Dublin so it's a bit too 'real' for my subconscious to deal with. Gillian Anderson is great in it.

Maybe I should try again. I think it's still on Netflix.

The third season is dire but the first two are fantastic. By the third season GA had forgotten how to talk properly and was just doing that ridiculous breathy thing all the time and wafting round in lovely silk shirts Grin

WandaOff · 04/08/2017 13:45

It's definitely the most scary thing I've watched in ages. I'm a bit of a wuss and have to fast forward through violence.
I googled GA and discovered the xfiles, which I've never watched as I'm not a fan of supernatural.
She does wonders for a silk shirt I may have a girl crush

Chaos have you seen Line of Duty or Happy Valley? Both have superb acting and a building tension through several episodes.

I agree. Series 3 totally dire. Actually it starts to lose it at the point she randomly starts getting off with Archie Punjabi and becomes some inadequate's wet dream.

hollyisalovelyname · 04/08/2017 14:11

Season 3 not as good as Season 1 or 2.
I'd love to know where the silk shirts are from.
On Style and Beauty on Mumsnet one poster gave a full list of the make up used by GA on the show.
But no mention of where the silk shirts came from Smile

WandaOff · 04/08/2017 14:23

In season 2 (which I haven't finished so no spoilers) she does waft about a bit with silk shirts on hangers. I'm not a make up or a silk shirt wearer but I'm still fascinated by GA.

Actually there was a bit in the episode I watched last night that wasn't quite right. About 50 CSI types invaded Spector's house while he was out. Even if they hadn't fallen through the ceiling surely some nosey neighbour would have met him at the door to tell him?

For me the best thing (aside from Anderson's acting, which is always sublime - her stage work is amazing) was the thrill of the chase, the will-she-won't-she catch the bad guy.

Trying not to do any spoilers, but the third series fell flat for exactly that reason.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/08/2017 18:01

Uniqlo do a range of shirts called 'silk-touch'. They're not actually made of silk, they are a rayon mix, but they look properly wafty and silky on and are very good value.

hollyisalovelyname · 04/08/2017 18:11

Thanks Black but I want to know the actual brand of silk shirt Grin

TheHiphopopotamus · 04/08/2017 18:40

I agree that the third series was bad. And was ridiculous in parts.

Such a shame because the first two were superb, and yes Jamie Dornan was a revelation as was Gillian Anderson although she does seem to struggle to speak above a whisper as the series go on.

Boredboredboredboredbored · 05/08/2017 18:50

Although the 3rd series wasn't necessary the final episodes makes up for it....get your cushion ready to hide behind op!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 10/08/2017 17:09

WandaO Cheers - Line if Duty is my all time favourite drama - unbeatable.

Was never kern on Sarah Lancashire (am very Soap averse) but thought she was excellent in Happy Valley - another good recommendation.

WandaOff · 10/08/2017 19:29

Season 2 finished.
I guess I can see where S3 is going.
I had hoped they would just have a fresh case. I've a feeling the actor playing Spector has some kind of stake in the programme?

Chaos Oh shame you've seen them both. I have never watched soaps so Sarah Lancashire was new to me. Thought she was superb and would like to see more of her.
Another one I thought of is Unforgotten. More of a Broadchurch-like slow burner but very well done. It stars Ruth Evershed (Spooks character).
