Is Top of the Lake scary?

Was the first series scary? I'm just trying to work out whether to watch this on my own in the house or to wait until dh is back.

Depends what you mean by scary, really?
There's no gore or make-you-jump stuff, but it's heavy and potentially triggering subject matter (child sex abuse, sexual assault).

It's dark and twisted but I loved it.

Really looking forward to tonight.

I'm hopeless with scary things and I was ok watching on my own last time. It is emotionally and visually haunting (in that it stays with you). Was fabulous.
