Me too, it has come back on Sky but I think I can download them all if I want. I think they have already completed this series in the USA. I watched the first one. I enjoyed it, but I can't for the life of me remember all the details of series 2, it has been such a long time and there was no 'previously on the Leftovers'. I remember they moved to the town called Miracle? and about Christopher Ecclestone's character and his wife being paralysed, and the neighbours' daughter disappearing, but what the hell happened in the end?

I don't suppose anyone fancies summarising season 2 for me, do they? Or knows where I can find the info?

Pemba · 05/07/2017 02:10

Also what the hell was all that 17th century stuff with no dialogue about at the start?

yumyumpoppycat · 05/07/2017 07:26

there is one here it's a bit rambling tvline.com/2015/12/06/the-leftovers-finale-season-2-recap-kevin-family-reunited/ I needed a recap too I couldn't remember what happened to Nora's baby or whether or not the GR actually had a bomb on their bus.

With the opening scene, apparently it was based on a real religious sect called millerism www.thisisinsider.com/the-leftovers-season-3-premiere-millerites-2017-4

It is so annoying this has been on in the US already as I am trying to be really careful to avoid spoilers - I am the type of person who sometimes reads the least page of a novel half way through so need to be strong!

I've just watched all of season 3, no spoilers coming, dont worry!

Stick with it, it's fabulous. It's the final season and well worth watching to the end Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 05/07/2017 07:41

They did a similar opening scene for series 2 which was really moving about a cavewoman giving birth after an earthquake has killed her tribe - that linked to the mythology of the lake water people think is magic and also the earthquakes that happen in season 2.

With the series 3 opening scene I wondered if the final scene of the episode with the woman 'sarah' on a bike collecting doves for a nun linked back to it a bit as the religious sect leader was using carrier pigeons? The dates for the rapture then linked straight into the flyers for 14 days to go etc, but in the 17th century clip the rapture never happens so will it happen in 2 weeks in Miracle etc

Oh, I love The Leftovers. Season 2 enthralled me and lingered in my head for ages (and got me, very belatedly, into the Pixies Blush).

Will come back to this thread once I've watched.

tornadedeviande · 05/07/2017 10:21

I've watched all of season 3 and am really looking forward to hearing what others think.

The Wikipedia page has reasonable episode summaries for anyone needing a reminder.

The Leftovers is definitely one of my very favourite TV programmes ever, though it can be grim and perplexing at times. I'm sure some of its nuances have flown right over my head but I've loved what I have understood!

The use of music through all 3 seasons has been a highlight for me and recurring themes like different versions of the Pixies' Where Is My Mind have been used to great effect.

I'm currently enjoying Leftovers playlists on Spotify to keep the enjoyment going!

yumyumpoppycat · 05/07/2017 20:06

If only they were showing it one episode a week we could have a proper discussion. Love it so much too, am a dunce with music so a lot of that goes over my head but enjoy the atmosphere of it.

Thanks for the links yumyum , really helpful. I will study them before watching the next episode.

Actually, they are showing it week by week on Sky, as well as having the whole series available to download. This week was a double bill of episode one and two, and it's just episode three on next Tuesday night. So we could discuss it following that pattern? But I guess a lot of people prefer to do the bingewatch thing.

GavelRavel · 06/07/2017 15:38

I've watched all.of series 3 too so joining for discussion when everyone is caught up

yumyumpoppycat · 06/07/2017 15:58

Pemba I don't have the restraint to watch weekly when episodes are actually available there in front of me Blush I am about half way through now and still enjoying, will probably have finished by the end of the week. We could start a spoilers thread for episode 1-3 but it might be too tricky for people who have finished the whole season already.

Place marking as love this, can't believe it hasn't picked up more traction

yumyumpoppycat · 07/07/2017 19:09

Ok finished season 3! Pemba let us know when you have caught up.

Ethan it's a shame isn't it. I was sure leftovers would have a big thread here on mumsnet.

My interpretation of the opening scene in episode one was to show that people have always been suggestible to religious fervour. Now, two hundred years ago and 1000 years ago. Some people will always be sucked into behaviours and ideologies that others sees as crazy

LightastheBreeze · 09/07/2017 13:30

Glad I found this thread as I am on hols at the moment and may have missed the series was on I will start it on catchup when I get home there will be a lot of telly watching for me as I am now behind on a lot of my series

midsomermurderess · 10/07/2017 15:40

I'm watching series 2. I find it very intense so can't really binge on it. I agree about the music and am glad to have been introduced to Iris DeMent who sings the opening song.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 10/07/2017 15:48

I missed S3 being on (somehow) just watched the whole thing in three nights. Loved it. :)

diddl · 10/07/2017 16:41

Was series 2 the one with the lake & the disappearing girls?

Couldn't get into that at all.

Loved series 1 though!

yumyumpoppycat · 12/07/2017 17:20

Hi yes series 2 was the one with the lake - that was my favourite series.

shall we start a spoiler/ discussion thread?

OP posts:
Janek · 13/07/2017 12:17

I'd like one - hadn't finished watching it when you started this thread, but i've seen it all now.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 13/07/2017 15:01

We've just finished season 3

SPOILERS AHEAD

DH was disappointed. I think he wanted Kevin to be Jesus 😂 we are not religious!

I wasn't, I like how everything had a scientific explanation in the end.

However I really wish we'd seen Nora go to the other side. And I don't believe for a minute that a mother wouldn't approach her kids, that she'd come back to live a miserable existence and that neglect her hair so very much Grin i thought it was kind of a shame that they focussed on their love story, it really wasn't that epic or interesting and I didn't think they were particularly a good match.

I'm cynical, I don't think Kevin went to elevators but instead had MH issues. Sorry Confused

yumyumpoppycat · 13/07/2017 19:14

Ok going to start a spoiler thread! will cut and paste your comments Cherry.
