Having a lazy day (and eating too much crap) and turned on TV - flicking through the channels and came across the Ellen show. I just don't get it. Ellen seems really curiously detached but the audience go wild every time she says something. Some people won a holiday and the whole audience were jumping up and down screaming like toddlers about to pee themselves and doing that silly little girl hand clap.

.The DJ put on a music track and Ellen started going up the aisles doing a mild bit of "dad dancing" to wild applause and screaming. I thought she was going to pick out an audience member but no, that was it - she went back to her seat and showed some clips of cute puppies to lots of aww's and applause. Ellen smiled in a totally (to me) fake grimace and then it's the ad break! Don't understand - I remember when Oprah was on CH4 and this is so weird compared to that. It's like the audience are children fed too many sweets. The audience seem to almost cult worship Ellen who just looks bemused and uncomfy.

I know she is one of the richest women in media but what is the appeal??

I don't get it either.

American audience members on most shows always come across as giddy 12 year olds.

Someone last year on here posted something about Ellen that put me right off her.

The show is strange.

I like Ellen she can be very funny, I think quite a lot of it is in jokes if you have been watching a while and she has a lot of fans who are probably just excited to see her . Yes the audience are very keen to cheer anything though!

MakeItStopNeville · 29/06/2017 14:39

The audience are directed what to do and told when to cheer and to act as if Ellen is Gods Gift to chat show hosts. In return they take home "prizes" i.e. a pile of shite.

To be fair, she is very big on philanthropy...as long as the whole world knows she's doing it.

Rockybird, I'm intrigued now. What did they say?! Grin

I used to absolutely love Oprah. It was really the best thing on TV.
Ellen is very very poor in comparison

My DD says the show is on 5 days a week all year - one hour each show. No wonder Ellen looks detached!
