Carrots used to be white!!1 The dutch bred them orange as tribute to their royal family!! WOW!!!

I grew some different coloured ones last year!

I sometimes get purple ones in my veg box. They taste exactly the same

Yes - i thought so too. The 2 presenters were quite odd.

I really like Giles Coren, and agreed with him that the whole GM thing is scary! But the scientist woman, was very odd.

I have to say I thought that the muscular cows were horrific

It was interesting on the subject of cloning though. That all our apples are clones, done by grafting. Then they showed a herd of cloned cows. Not much difference really I suppose.

I thought for her to say that about veg was silly really - it would only be relevant as a comparison if they were saying that scientific meddling made the apple trees yield more fruit each year, not just different varieties and tastes. When she said "potatoes used to be poisonous" I just thought it was scraping the barrel - ok so someone made it so potatoes didn't kill us - sensible - not the same as producing fat big featherless chickens for more profit.
And the mention that the Dutch changed carrots from white to orange in tribute to their Royal family - again, not for widespread commercial and corporate gain.

To compare them smacked of desperation to get people to think that you can't argue against Swarzennegger Cows if you enjoy a Cox's Pippin.
