Last ever. He said there's no more, no Christmas special. Sad

fifipop185 · 02/05/2017 20:58

No more, ever? Noooooooooo...!!!! Gin

AnthonyPandy · 02/05/2017 21:02

Never. I read it on the BBC earlier.

TroysMammy · 02/05/2017 21:30

Gutted. I feel absolutely flat.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 02/05/2017 21:30

Nooooooo Sad

Lovelongweekends · 02/05/2017 21:31

Noooooooo. That can't be the end. I feel cheated!!

Justmuddlingalong · 02/05/2017 21:31

That was rubbish. Sad After last week's brilliant episode, it was really disappointing.

TheChippendenSpook · 02/05/2017 21:36

I totally agree. Sad

Justmuddlingalong · 02/05/2017 21:38

DP is night shift so I recorded it for him. I won't bother rewatching it tomorrow. I want to stamp my foot, I feel so cheated.

I have just said the same just

It was such a let down.

WannabeHippyChick · 02/05/2017 21:48

I thought it was setting up for a Christmas special now he'd asked her to be on the team...
But I guess not! AngrySadConfused

GinSwigmore · 02/05/2017 21:50

That surprises me. Not not having a third series, I get that entirely and think it's probably right but I was sure they had only had four to 'hold two back' for Xmas and New Year. That they haven't seems to be a missed opportunity indeed. I note he said something about it being hard to have plotlines/original stories but I also note that the fourth co-writer was totally left out of it this time around (Tim Reid Twitter 13 Apr) Maybe they should have asked him.

Maudlinmaud · 02/05/2017 21:51

Watched it all on the night of the first episode, like most of you. I am so disappointed and sad. I know it's just a tv show but waaaaaahhhhSad

Clawdy · 02/05/2017 22:00

I thought it was a brilliant episode, but so sorry they weren't together at the end.

GinSwigmore · 02/05/2017 22:58

Thing is, I reckon most of us could have a good stab at how the last two would go.
8months on
Xmas episode
Goes to pick her up as he knows she is on crutches after hurting her ankle doing a store charity Xmas fun run. Things are a bit frosty/awkward as he thinks she is still going out with rebound shag (trolley dolly) but it turns out they've split. Thanks her for her work on the Xmas team (he kept her on it regardless). Lots of Xmas songs on forever FM (Greg lake bells bit/Stop the cavalry trumpet bit/Maschriah Scary in dream sequence/Wham). Taking piss out of store Santa/signs advertising crap rip off Lapland places/Cliff songs/Chris Rea/Love actually takedown/ Christmas deeny boppers on and a couple of Xmas crackers. Awkward mistletoe kiss on cheek on way in. On way back jolly as have had staff Xmas thank you speech and bonus/quick drink in staffroom. Still no snow. Noddy Holder on radio.
Last song plays in car Pogues...as he helps her out the car she slips on the crutches into his arms as Shaun sings "built my dreams around you". Snow, Pogues in credits.

New Year
Both have crappy NYE shift. Not seen each other since the snog drop off. Ask about families and so on and so forth. Discuss plans for the evening. She's going to a karaoke bar with DSis/BIL (elbow singer). He's being a curmudgeon. New Years resolutions on forever FM, ads for slimming and the like, NY sales etc Discuss Jools begafriend not being recorded at NY
Drops her off, First and only internal scene: sits in with meal for one, time lapses, wakes up in front of Jools hootenanny or falls to sleep to it and wakes up to qvc type shopping channel selling off old xmas stock or NY slimfast, switches radio on, hears Hearsay Pure and Simple. Drives to the Karaoke bar and kisses her/proposes in homage to When Harry Met Sally.
(Either for the countdown itself or car showing whatever time it was he used to wake up at).
The End.

Tableforjuan · 02/05/2017 23:07

I have been imagining the exact same gin even down to the Ted2 rebound. Reckon she would he sheepish about who had been dropping her in until it transpired she had a new fella. Can't get on board with your inside scene but otherwise reckon you should sell it to bbc if Peter Kay won't.

Justmuddlingalong · 02/05/2017 23:09

You've given this a bit of thought, haven't you Gin? Grin Well done, your Christmas and New Year episodes sound great. And the sound track is perfect.

OP posts:
GinSwigmore · 02/05/2017 23:22

^ I have been somewhat over invested since I read there are no more episodes. Grin I am somewhat funny about asymmetry (you don't say!) so it's the 6-4 episode number that has caused my head to implode. If inside scene is scrapped Juan then it has to be him nipping to a late night petrol station for something with forever FM chirpily saying NY can be lonely, here's a song for all of you out there ("All by myself"). On the way back to his nan's with Rennies, hears Hearsay, does a U turn. Gets the girl.

In actual fact, the ending of episode 4 is quite brave. There is a resolution, just not the dream one people would have liked. It's odd to avoid the cliché when much of the humour was built on nostalgia/cliché/parody.
My favourite film is Dodgeball. The "alternative" ending on the dvd extras when the underdogs just lose straight off, bang, then it cuts straight to credits still makes me chuckle.

Tableforjuan · 02/05/2017 23:42

Petrol station interlude works wellWink

I agree, loved ep 4 and thought it was beautifully acted and very realistic. But the ending should be an understated romantic climax, as per The Office Xmas Special.

I just listened to the Peter Kay interview and it didn't sound like he'd ruled it out 100%, more that nothing was planned...

Clawdy · 03/05/2017 08:56

I would have liked a really happy ending, but that wasn't going to be, obviously. Would have settles for a nice ambiguous one, perhaps with John sitting there with the fantasy scene still in his head, then suddenly making a move to the door handle....

Clawdy · 03/05/2017 08:57

Settled, sorry.

angemorange · 03/05/2017 09:06

Think Elsie (blue smurf) from Episode 2 should have her own series!

5BlueHydrangea · 03/05/2017 09:10

They are waiting to see what ideas MN people come up with...

WannabeHippyChick · 03/05/2017 09:12

Thankyou Gin, in my head that'll now be exactly how it all worked out! So glad it was a happy ending! GrinWink
(Have you thought of going into writing or tv or something? - that was brilliant! x)
