blondehelen · 11/03/2007 21:15

hoping its going to improve. Kept hoping on Friday too. think it might stay crap though.

Whizzz · 11/03/2007 21:15

Yup - its like Big Bro on an island....very grim

filthymindedvixen · 11/03/2007 21:26

I loved the first one on the scottish island. god that seems like a decade ago...was that before BB even existed?

Posey · 11/03/2007 21:30

The first one was before all the "I'm trying to be a celeb" TV. They were people who wanted the experience. The majority of this lot are just in it to be on TV and get a career off the back of it. Am sorely disappointed

Whizzz · 11/03/2007 21:34

Can't believe the Beeb wasted its money on this pile of tosh - you might have well bunged them in the BB house

CODalmighty · 11/03/2007 21:59

Dh and I were just talking about this (he's at work so I was telling him what cr*p it is). Anyway we got to talking about "Living in the Past" from 1978 when that group of people recreated and lived in an Iron Age settlement. Remember, age 8, being fascinated by it, and embarrassed by the nudity. Remember it being great. Wonder what it would seem like now. I'm sure a damn sight more interesting than this lot.
Anyone else see it?

KathyMCMLXXII · 12/03/2007 11:26

Posey - yes, I have some of the original Iron Age thing on tape somewhere.

As you would expect, they all seem very committed, determined and engaged compared to some recent ones (the remake of the Iron Age thing, c. 2001, was a particularly low point).
Some of the American ones (Pioneer House, Frontier House) are equally good.

I showed some of it a to group of students and they were all grossed out by the graphic images of butchered meat

My mum remembers watching the Iron Age one first time round - her comment is that what surprised everyone was that actually living off the land, Iron Age style, turned out to be relatively easy for a group of young, fit people with no unusual problems to contend with. What was difficult (and interesting to watch) was the difficulties they had dealing with personal relationships.
Hence reality tv was discovered.....

Nip · 12/03/2007 11:28

OH NO - I think its great! It is JUST like BB on an island, i think it could be quite amusing - although the presenter is a bit of an arse!
And Jonathon - what a man to admit that 8 out of 10 people in a room would hate him!
Its just funny - where do they find these people from???

JaneAustenAllegro · 12/03/2007 11:30

yes it's boring. I thought it was going to be proper survival stuff, but they seem to have everything they need so where's the challenge in that?

they all seem so familiar - I'm sure that young Tory Clare has been on telly before. And Jonathan is just like Shabaz from last year's BB.

BizzyDint · 12/03/2007 11:32

made me cross. i liked the first one, with ben fogle in it. that was like a proper castaway thing. this one is awful. ok early days..but it's all just trying too hard. like ooooh tune in next week for a BIG surprise. no thanks.

Miaou · 12/03/2007 11:33

oh ROFL ROFL ROFL

I just read out the thread title to Dh (he had been wondering what the MN verdict on the prog was) and he said "that sounds like Cod thread title if ever I heard one"

He PHSL when I told him it was

katierocket · 12/03/2007 11:34

last one was really good this one crap

Gingerbear · 12/03/2007 11:42

It is dire.
I would like to punch all of them.
Supposed to be a remote island, yet on t'other side islanders are laughing and sitting happily with their generators.
One to avoid.
Waste of Licence fee.

PestoMonster · 12/03/2007 11:53

We taped it last night. Probly won't bother watching it tonight now. I was hoping it was going to grow on me, but sounds like it's just irritating. Grrr!!

aDad · 12/03/2007 11:55

shitey shite.

I thought it was going to be the same as the year long one. Obviously not.

DimpledThighs · 12/03/2007 13:16

crap

same old realtiy bollocks - dull dull dull.

The first one was better in a sociology experiment type way but this is love island meets big brother meets castaway all shaken up with extra dull.

people are - generally speking - VERY dull.

Lucycat · 12/03/2007 13:19

I only saw 10 minutes of it, when two of them went out and swam with some dolphins that were in the bay - was very of that, but can't say I've seen any more, and have no inclination to do so!

IntergalacticWalrus · 12/03/2007 13:22

Can't bear to watch it, as the last one gave that knobbo Ben Fogle a "career"

KathyMCMLXXII · 12/03/2007 13:29

Surely Ben Fogle is harmless?
Or is there someone else you would like to see presenting Countryfile?

Whoooosh · 12/03/2007 13:40

The first one was great-I really wished they had done a follow up on them all (apart from Ben of course)-would love to know how they all settled back into civilisation.

Think I remember the doctor and his wife being particularly irritation...

DimpledThighs · 12/03/2007 13:41

the docotr and his wife decided to home educate after their experience would love to see how that worked out!

CODalmighty · 12/03/2007 13:43

some of the omwnes THIGhS offend me

DimpledThighs · 12/03/2007 13:46

god - that one in a bikini bottoms and t-shirt - didn't she know she was on telly?
