AIBU to be annoyed about the replacement showing the use of cot bumpers?!

I can't help but feel angry watching episode 2 of the replacement on BBC (on catch up)

I know that cot bumpers are sold in shops but to use them on a tv channel with a newborn in a cot rather than a Moses basket etc I don't understands.

Also used a pillow!!!!

And baby was in the front seat of the car, I know you can disable airbag so but it's going against safety advice.

I'm annoyed at the BBC here as a new mum I didn't know everything with regards to safety and the BBC is not helping promote safe sleeping/ travelling.

(Sorry for the typos.) To be clear I'm asking if i am overthinking this as DH thinks I am. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the promotion of basic up to date safety info on a main tv station?

I must admit I thought the same about the pillow and thought no feet to foot either.
I don't normally notice things like that but did when watching it!

Enjoying the programme though even if they've not got their health promotion/infant safety hats on.

I said this to DH tonight! He tins me it was only tv. But slotted the pillow, blanket, cot bumper & car seat plus the newborn sleeping alone in her nursery

I know obviously she left her in the car but that was highlighted as possible neglect.

Everything in combination is awful. Surely having a newborn in a big cot is ill advised but definitely in a nursery on her own.

Just watched the end and the dad unbuckled the baby from the car seat but left her in it on the table too whilst get argued. I know it's unlikely she'd come out but would you do this?! No?!

Any health visiters watching will be going out of their minds!

Im pretty sure you wouldn't get a grilling like that from SS for leaving a baby in a car on its own for 10mins though.

They always do things like this on TV, it drives you potty when you know the safety recommendations

I don't think you notice it until you have kids, which is probably the problem! And then once they're over about 5, you stop noticing again...

You are overthinking it, it's supposed to be entertainment, not education. It happens with everything, you're just hyper aware of the new baby stuff at the moment because it's relevant to you. If you were studying medicine you'd probably notice all of the medical inaccuracies on TV instead. :)

Having a newborn in a cot isn't advised against though anywhere. I agree the rest of it is wrong but they do always get this stuff wrong, so I can't get too worked up about it.

The cot bumper, loose blankets, pillow, soft toys, fabric draped artfully over the edge of the cot, etc really irritated me because it immediately made me think the set designer hadn't done their research! Then I started noticing all sorts of things (how quickly she'd recovered from the c-section, car seat stuff etc) and stopped concentrating on the drama!

I tutted a bit at the Sherlock promotion photos of the baby being in a Baby Bjorn and it's legs looking ever so slightly off optimal for the froggy leg angle. Of course it was a fake baby but

Yeh I understand that it is a drama and the main purpose is for entertainment but infant safety is so important and it misleads new parents.

I find it hard to believe that not one person involved in the production of this show failed to realise all or some of this so why was it showing SO many things that were against guidelines.

It's hard to believe when you're immersed in the world of new babies but that all encompassing obsession definitely passes.

It's quite plausible that nobody involved in set design is anywhere near that stage.

Don't you think all those little details are maybe showing the motivation of the character?

It's unthinkable that a woman giving birth today wouldn't know about feet to foot. This character isn't doing feet to foot. It isn't an accident.

I was saying exactly the same to my husband I kept thinking the baby was going to suffocate as part of the story.

In the world of the bad screen writer, the mother probably screamed at her first contraction and gave birth on her back, too. To a pink, clean 12lb baby with a massive, round head. Even if that's not part of the series, itself, that will be the back story.

All pretty clueless.

Actually DH and I were both remarking on how the baby looked like a proper newborn, for once. That's why I think it's all deliberate.

I wondered about it being deliberate to the plot but I thought if so, there'd probably be some lingering shots on the loose blankets or some dialogue where the parents are reminded of the guidelines etc, to underscore it. After all, as a PP has pointed out, lots of people watching wouldn't be clued up on the guidelines so it'd need to be spelt out to them.
