The Missing Series 1 (yes, I know I'm out of date)

I've just finished watching The Missing, S1, and I'm absolutely gutted at the ending.

Obviously it was never going to be a happy ever after, but to just leave it like that? I'm devastated (ok, over the top, but you know what I mean).

I think my problem with shows like this is that I can't watch without imagining my own family and I find these things very upsetting. With hindsight, I shouldn't have watched, but it was great TV. I just feel really low now.

Anyone else?

I hated the ending of series 1 so much! The whole series felt like a complete waste of eight hours of my life. I wasn't going to bother watching series 2 but really glad I did as that was brilliant.

That's exactly what I said! A waste of 8 hours and I said won't be watching S2. Imight change my mind about that, especially if it's not like the first.

Oh you must watch series 2, it's fantastic. Nothing like the first series at all and has a great ending.

I thought the ending to series one was perfect. I think it's meant to give you a glimpse of how the parents of Madeleine McCann/Ben Needham etc feel. The father knew realistically that Olly was dead, but without a body he could never get closure. The audience actually saw Olly being killed but even they can't fully accept that he's dead. I thought it was a more realistic and affecting ending than series two (although that was brilliant too).

You definitely won't be disappointed by series two. It has more of a 'proper' ending and wraps things up more neatly.

It took me ages to sleep last night, going over and over the story.

I've come to the conclusion that Tony worked so hard for so many years to find Olly, do we really expect him to give up at that point? I believer he would've never given up and they would be reunited, in some way, eventually.

Still a dissatisfactory ending IMO.

I felt cheated by the ending at the time, but having thought about it since I think it was perfect. I'd prefer the unanswered questions, I think, and I felt it was more realistic than series 2.

I've bought it for my dd's stocking so will watch again.

The ending to the first series was briliant and I couldn't stop thinking about it. The ending to the current series wasn't such a shock if that makes any sense. Someone on here predicted it more or less perfectly.
Re: first series, it made the viewer see it completely through the father - he couldn't accept it but we also couldn't, especially the flicker of recognition in the young Russian boy at the end. I don't remember seeing the son being killed on screen but it was heavily implicated.
It also now seems like a terrible reflection of what happened with the Ben Needham case. I hope that his mother finally found the closure she needed after decades of searching. Sad

Girl overboard I don't remember seeing him killed. Have I blocked that out? When.

I loved the series. But it was very traumatising and I struggled with the end.
Season 2 is fantastic.

It was a long time ago so I might have remembered it wrong. But didn't we see the criminal employed by the mayor go back and finish the job when he realised Olly was still alive? And then didn't the mayor see Olly's body in the car boot? I know we didn't see the gory details or the body, but it's pretty obvious Olly's dead. I thought it was a really clever ending.

SuperPug · 14/12/2016 09:26

Yes, he was still alive in that house and I think he drew the picture there, which made his dad think he was still alive. The mayor's brother was the guy who had ran him over, panicked, then took him to the house and he was probably killed there.
