All I can think is "wow they cast well with Matt Smith in THE Crown" Grin

Looks like you're the only one, OP, but I'll come back after watching it on catch up tomorrow.

MetalLaLa · 12/12/2016 21:25

I'm watching it OP, the casting was spot on like you say. Also nice to see the home videos and show the human side of the Royal family.

raisedbyguineapigs · 12/12/2016 21:31

I'm watching it. I thought the same thing Grin

Does anyone think the RF speak a bit differently? They seem a bit 'casual'!

NapQueen · 12/12/2016 21:35

I think Sophie and Kate have used the same elocution tutor they have a very similar way, however Sophie seems much more relaxed than when Kate was in the Queen documentary

I'm not too sure if Phillip is doing a good job though....although I suppose he is allowed to be nervous.

Yes the home videos were lovely!

Aah it's nice to see Sophie with her kids too. We don't see them very often. She has a cuddly boy and an awkward teenager!

Hepzibar · 12/12/2016 21:49

I'm watching.
Thought Phil S was cringey at the beginning, he's improved slightly, but that may be because I've gotten used to his sycophancy.

Sophie always comes over well in these things. Although she didn't appear to even acknowledge her son when she arrived back after the bike ride thing.

Str4ngedaysindeed · 12/12/2016 22:00

Loved it when Prince P said 'this is the third time we've met' and Philip S spluttered' oh we have met many times'
Not a fan 😁😁

wineoclockthanks · 12/12/2016 22:02

Oh God, I'm liking the Duke but Philip S is sooooo awful. It's not all about you Phil (S)

NoahVale · 13/12/2016 07:29

it was not very revealing at all was it, agree with Prince Philip complaining about it being the third time.
and Schofield was just going on about himself

raisedbyguineapigs · 13/12/2016 09:29

There was an article in the DM praising Prince P for putting Phil S in his place, and I thought typical, praising some overpriveledged twonk for being rude to the little people who pay for him to live in a palace,. But watching it, he wasn't rude at all, he just seemed mildly bemused by being interviewed by an overexcited sycophant who kept going on anout how he was wingwalking ' for you'!!??

heartskey · 13/12/2016 10:03

It always annoys me to see the bowing and scraping before the royals. When you get people lined up to meet one or other of them and the way they hang on to every word and laugh at some comment they make as if it's really funny.

Clawdy · 13/12/2016 10:34

I did think it was nice to see Sophie's son hugging her like that. It reminded me of Harry cuddling up on Diana's lap years ago in a bit of film. So different from the Queen solemnly shaking Charles' hand after a trip abroad when he was a toddler.

heartskey · 13/12/2016 18:34

Yes Clawdy, it's hard to imagine anyone shaking their sons hand after being away for such a long time isn't it. I always think Charles will have issues because of it.

raisedbyguineapigs · 13/12/2016 19:07

I think he basically has said he does have issues because of it. His mother was very unresponsive. I think Phil was more involved, but sent him away to Boarding school at 8, so that was the end of that!

Clawdy · 13/12/2016 19:49

And it was a very strict and Spartan boarding school too!Shock

heartskey · 13/12/2016 20:23

I wonder if he calls the queen "mum" when they're alone.

Clawdy · 13/12/2016 21:11

He does seem to have been a rather fond dad to his own two boys, which is nice.

mogloveseggs · 13/12/2016 21:15

Watched this last night. Phillip S got on my nerves though. The Duke came across very well as did Edward and Sophie.

heartskey · 13/12/2016 21:28

I was surprised at how "normal" Edward came across. I think it's the first time I've heard him speak. He seemed nice.

raisedbyguineapigs · 13/12/2016 22:26

I think it's 'mummy' in true strict boarding school style Grin

heartskey · 13/12/2016 22:29

I often wonder if she's ever given her children a hug.

Yoksha · 13/12/2016 23:35

After stumbling upon this thread I caught this on itv hub. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Agreed PS settled down in his sycophantic attitude. Prince Edward & Sophie were delightful. Brilliant casting with Matt Smith in The Crown. There was one fleeting moment in a home movie where Prince Philip looked the double of Prince Harry.

WellErrr · 14/12/2016 18:23

Love the Duke of Edinburgh, and I'm not surprised he was short with PS. Even I was fed up of hearing about how he was wing walking 'for you, Sir.' It was very odd. He just went on about himself.

Probably nerves though.
