Techy question about firestick, nowTV etc options

Have made the decision to move away from the "dish" as too expensive. Am currently grappling with putting kodi on my firestick. My problem is my son who uses our old box with multiroom. Was all set to get him either a firestick or nowTV box for christmas when it dawned on me that he doesn't use a TV at all - he has the box connected straight to a projector. So my question is can he do the same with a firestick or alternative, otherwise he's not going to speak to me anymore!

If it has an HDMI port it should connect fine but for audio it might be a problem- does he use surround sound? If so he would plug it into his sound system I would have thought. If the projector has speakers it might be OK too.
