Brief Encounters not renewed by ITV

As the title says, apparently ITV won't be renewing Brief Encounters. So annoyed as thought it was a great show.

I've loved the dramas with strong female leads so disappointed that they've cancelled this as well as cancelling Homefires Angry

That is a shame. I really enjoyed this and I don't watch much telly. It ended with lots of potential storylines to continue as well.

Oh !.... I was enjoying that. Penelope Wilton was great, so was Sharon Rooney and that girl who was in Peaky Blinders. Nice to hear the 80s music too.

They have started so many new series recently, some of which are a bit sub-par (eg Paranoid). Sick of thrillers revolving around murders, they start to all get mixed up in my mind there are so many of them.

So when something like this is a bit different, and very well done, why can't they keep it, and stop commisioning so many new thrillers?

I agree - it's annoying that they keep starting good dramas that aren't murders / gory / treating women like shit & even though they're popular, they don't renew the series!

I'm so disappointed to hear this. I was looking forward to a second series.

I thought it was really good. Nice to see some strong female characters and such good actors.

Great to see Karl Davies too because I loved him in Emmerdale.

And the soundtrack was great!

Oh, I really enjoyed this programme! Sad

CaptainHammer · 10/11/2016 15:48

Oh that's a shame, I really enjoyed that programme.

I know, I'm so disappointed - there's so much crap going on IRL, that a bit of easy watching TV with a great female cast & fantastic 80s music & reminiscing with the decor & clothes would have been just the tonic.

Ah, that's a shame. I really enjoyed this, loved the nostalgia and had such a fab cast.

Did it not get the viewing figures? Having said that, not sure where they would've gone with series 2 as things were wrapped up quite nicely.

emotionsecho · 10/11/2016 20:51

Oh bugger, I thoroughly enjoyed this programme.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 10/11/2016 23:12

Apparently they did have good ratings Hip, but as did Homefires & they cancelled that too!

So infuriating! A great show with a fantastic cast. I really hoped for another series.

Gatekeeper · 15/11/2016 20:22

Bums...me and dd have watched the series over the last week as we recorded it ages ago and forgot about it. We both really enjoyed it and am very disappointed there will be no series two Sad

NotEnoughTime · 15/11/2016 21:28

I'm gutted-I loved Brief Encounters AND Homefires Sad

Wombletor · 15/11/2016 21:46

I thought brief encounters was great. So disappointin it won't be renewed. It had a lovely nostalgic feel to it, I grew up in the 80s. It had a lot of potential. Shame :-(

DiegeticMuch · 18/11/2016 10:48

I was a huge Home Fires fan. Bletchley Circle, too.

With BE, I felt that it lost momentum and I'm not surprised that it's been cancelled. I enjoyed the 1980s nostalgia and Penelope W is always a joy to see, but wouldn't have watched a second series.

Disappointed
