8.00 p.m on Channel 5 'pushy parents'
Examining the lives of youngsters with overbearing parents (MNetters? ) who are determined to live out their own dreams through their children, and the long term damage that can be caused when offspring fail to live up to their expectations.

9.00 p.m. on Channel 4 'Child Genius'
charting the development of children with extraordinary intellect, including six year old Adam who can solve quadratic equations (whatever the feck they are) and is studying A-Level Chemistry, Micheal, 5, who reads Shakespeare (as opposed to Charlie and Lola one assumes) and is learning Mandarin, and three year old Mikhail who can add into the 1000's.

What's the betting their parents are regulars on MN Gifted and Talented board?

Just been watching Pushy Parents and have realised I used to teach one of the girls! Her mum is coming across really badly - feel embarassed for the poor girl, she is lovely.

expatinscotland · 08/02/2007 20:34

Neither one of these girls has any extraordinary talent.

I work in this industry, and it's MUCH more brutal when they get to be adults and they have to be told that they're just not going to cut it.

Steph. I hate to say it, but it needs said, she needs to lose some weight if she's to be a dancer.

Sorry, but men can't lift a dancer who's that heavy.

It's just how it is.

Claudia.
Is.Not.A.Soprano.

What is the point in coaching a ten-year-old's voice?

Better to focus on her sight reading until her voice matures. Into the alto it's going to become.

DUNGBEETLE · 08/02/2007 20:48

WEASELMUM which one?

expatinscotland · 08/02/2007 20:49

She's TEN and singing a song that's entirely inappropriate.

Nice.

DUNGBEETLE · 08/02/2007 20:51

horrible mums, poor kids

pinkchampagne · 08/02/2007 20:51

Saw this advertised & would have forgotten it was on, so thanks for the reminder!

granarybeck · 08/02/2007 21:02

Me too, thanks for the reminder

WeaselMum · 09/02/2007 07:57

It was Steph - glad she's decided she would rather be a lawyer!

DUNGBEETLE · 09/02/2007 12:17

Thanks I hope she does go into Law

foxinsocks · 09/02/2007 12:20

I felt sorry for that 10 year old.

There's a line between deciding you want to support your child in an area they are talented in and foisting some mad mini Charlotte Church performing contract idea on her and then spending all your hours MAKING her be something she isn't.

TenaLady · 09/02/2007 12:22

I thought the most natural child was the chess player tbh. I think he enjoyed what he was doing and seemed totally self motivated bless him. Do think he needs to get a few friends of his own age though.

MummyPenguin · 09/02/2007 12:25

I was disappointed with 'Pushy Parents' as it's a bloody repeat. Saw this yonks ago, so didn't watch.
