Used to find Louis Theroux quite attractive - the floppy hair, the glasses, the false naivety - lovely. Now, not so much....

Oh I LOVE Louis Theroux - he does that Columbo type of thing where everyone thinks he's annoying and a bit of an idiot, but he suddenly fells them all with an innocent observation.

I love geeky blokes though

Last night's show was incredible. Dh said the money on one table is about a years worth for us and that wealthy chap was just frittering it away as small change while we agonise over every penny! What a waste - I'd sooner run out in the street and give it to someone.

Everyone seemed so impressed by the fact that the casino would call you sir or madam and give out the odd freebie. It's not a freebie! It just looks like one. Are these people mad?

As for the old lady who had lost about 4million over the years...NOOOOOO!

speedymama · 05/02/2007 11:57

DH and I love Louis Theroux too. We sat aghast at the profligate waste by all those people. DH and I went to Las Vegas in the late 90s for a conference and spent some time there afterwards for a holiday. Our total spend on gambling in the casinos was $30 and we balked at that, especially as it was gone in about 2 minutes.

We did wonder how many of these people could really afford their habit? For example, the guy at the end who would not reveal how much he had lost (we suspect it was around $500k) said earlier wrt to his wife that if she did not know how much he earned, then she would not know how much he was gambling away.

Also a lover of Louis here (non physical) think he's great, I love his style.

aDad · 05/02/2007 12:00

Did I hear correctly that some of those fruit machines were 300 dollars a go??! And absolutely zero skill involved in those as well. What an idiotic way to gamble.

curlysmum · 05/02/2007 12:33

my dd is at the same childminder as his son although I never see him as her dad collects her , he lives near me too, but he is very nice so everyone says

DizzyBint · 05/02/2007 12:37

i was utterly disgusted at that man shoving note after note into those fruit machines, two machines at a time. how incredibly vile.

love louis though!

Louis is great, and he is like Columbo, Tinygang, you're right. The people on his shows must think to themselves "Hey, I'm coming across really well here! Those folks in Merrie Olde England are going to be really impressed!"

Mind you, even I was surprised when Louis outed himself as Jewish to a family of proudly anti-semitic neo-nazis in the Aryan Nation programme. And such was the power of his personality, they seemed to accept it quite reasonably!

But how much money were those people throwing away last night? Makes you want to cry. And how sad that Alan was there on his own with his so-called 'friend' from the casino whose job it was to relieve him of as much money as possible. Doesn't Alan have any real mates to go away for a weekend with?

speedymama · 05/02/2007 14:31

Alan's wife refuses to go with him - sensible woman. I was aghast that he really thought that guy from the casino was a friend! Mug more like.

What about the son who had to stand by and watch his mother fritter away his inheritance. He smiled for the camera but I bet he is really seething. I still can't believe that she has wasted $4m dollars on mainly slot machines and considers the casino her second home. She needs some grandchildren to dote on.

sockmonkey · 06/02/2007 16:57

Love Louis. They obviously pick the folks to interview well. That bloke feeding $100 bills into 2 machines at a time... Wouldn't giving the money to charity give better feelings.
I hope I am never rich enough to be that stupid with money.
