TV license to watch iplayer!

I can't believe it! Haven't had a tv license for over a decade (refuse to pay for Mostly crap telly so use catch up.
But now can't access iplayer without a license!
Thank God the Olympics & Fleabag have finished. Am I missing out by ditching the iplayer?
There's no way I'm getting a license. Is there a way around paying for a license I wonder?

Why don't you want to pay for programmes you enjoy. It's actually tremendously good value!

I'm glad they have closed the loophole. If you don't think BBC programmes are worth the license fee, then you won't really miss them, will you?

TV in general mostly crap I think. Iplayer one of the better channels. Already paying for netflix. That and tv license over £200 per year!

So it's crap and you don't want to pay but you want a way of getting round it? If you want to use a service then bloody pay for it like the rest of us.

I deleted I player when I first heard about this. Haven't actually watched anything on there for over a year anyway but fairs fair and I won't keep the app now anyway.
I do have Netflix, but it's roughly half the price per year of a to license. Couldn't afford both.

Yes, but perhaps the OP wants the rest of us to fund the programmes that she would like to watch for free.

Also agree you shouldn't be looking for a way round it. Either you pay and watch, or you don't pay and go without. Nothing wrong with either of those things, each to their own.

Totally fair enough to delete the app if you don't want to pay for it. What isn't fair is expecting to watch stuff without paying for it!

The TV licence fee funds all BBC services, including the radio and website which you can continue to use without paying. When you consider that it's pretty good vfm, but in my view all people who consume any part of the BBC's service should pay which means the only real solution is a universal levy like they have in Germany which would reduce collection costs and spread the cost amongst the whole population so the fee would reduce.

If you think the BBC is "one of the better channels" why don't you think it's worth paying for?
The lengths some people will go to to avoid the license fee is unbelievable.

We've not had a license for over 10 years and have just bought one on 1 Sep so we can watch Gardener's World and a few other things (but mainly for the DC to be able to watch cbbc and give us some peace!). As we listen to BBC radio all the time, it seems only fair that we are paying into the system.

I heard on radio 4 (ironically) that less than 5% of households don't pay for a TV license. It's great value for money, £12 per month for the website, iplayer, TV shows and radio.

To me Netflix is a lot more expensive when compared. Plus 99% of Netflix is shite.

Bread, I agree that people should have to pay for the website and the radio as well. Tbh, I'd be happy to pay the license fee for Radio 4 alone!

However, I'm not in favour of a universal levy, as I think people should have the right to opt out. I don't know if it's technically possible to charge for radio, I guess it's do-able for the website.

If you do get one, don't make the mistake I did of getting one at the end of the month as I paid for 12 months and got 11. Only buy it on the first of the month.
