...so today they want to sell all their beautiful treasures to raise £1000 to build a giant chess set in the garden....

Would you?

i hate the way she keeps smacking her lips at the prices...

Marina · 01/02/2007 12:31

One of the few advantages of WOTH is that the temptation to heckle this insane programme is just removed.
Dh watched it once on my "recommendation" and nearly imploded!
Cmon torty I think this idea is downright reasonable compared to some of the projects the participants come up with...
Don't let ds see it, he might want to start flogging his teeth to start a windfarm on your roof...

sunnywong · 01/02/2007 12:38

is the supersweetsupercamp Alistair Appleton still on it?

Marina · 01/02/2007 12:39

Yes, he is such a cutie sunny (don't know if he is on today's though)

tortoiseSHELL · 01/02/2007 12:44

oh yes it's alistair today!

I quite like the idea of a windfarm on the roof.....don't think ds1 would appreciate me stealing his teeth fund though...he now looks positively criminal with his gap!

We've got that minor key 'de de de dEEEE' music atm - things not going too well...

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 01/02/2007 12:46

back to major, things looking up for the giant chess set.

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 01/02/2007 12:49

oh they're going to get such a nice chess set - if anyone's still reading...pictures valued at £60 just sold for £1700 - or 'one thousand, seventeen hundred pounds' as the auctioneer said!

Marina · 01/02/2007 12:51

ooo, it's almost like being in the room, torty, live Cash in the Attic relay...

tortoiseSHELL · 01/02/2007 12:52

she's just been on the phone to Michael Bond, as she's flogging some original Paddington storyboards and the characters used for the filming!

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 01/02/2007 12:52

I bet you're really gutted not to be watching it aren't you marina!

OP posts:
Marina · 01/02/2007 12:55

I so am. And even dh would be intrigued by the Paddington memorabilia.
Can you tell I am waiting for those idiots at the bindery to call back...

"Bartock", "Beathoven", I ask you

(they bind all our stock, and we have not had a problem-free consignment since 2002. And they are now the only bindery in the UK. How come the Monopolies and Mergers Commission didn't investigate this dire situation?)

tortoiseSHELL · 01/02/2007 12:58

I had a fight with our local city library about looking for some Vaughan Williams - they insisted it was under W. Took me 20 mins to persuade them to look under V, where they were amazed it actually was - kept telling me Vaughan was his first name!

And a friend of mine (who you've heard of actually from GSMD) has a bus video where they go past a statue of 'Bela Bostock'.

The Paddington stuff didn't go so well - one didn't sell, but the others got £500 each.

Oh my word, they've built the chess set, and started a 'village chess championship'....they're going to be popular aren't they! Will shut up now!

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 01/02/2007 12:59

Do you think they're going to call back in the sense of 'someone will call you later.....3 weeks later still no phone call.'

OP posts:
Marina · 01/02/2007 13:06

That Vaughan Williams has just made me LOL, but it is pretty typical of the deskilling going on in the public library sector, frankly

Once had near fisticuffs with "customer" in a public library who refused to believe my polite insistence that they were NOT going to find Auden's Funeral Blues in any volume of TS Eliot's works...

We have their "Customer Services Manager" on speed-dial, the slippery so and so

tortoiseSHELL · 01/02/2007 13:10

lol at the Auden! It was the way they kept patiently explaining that the cataloguing system put them under their surname, not their christian name!

THat's extraordinary that there's only one bindery!
