Wow elk those are absolutely fantastic!

I did think it was a good episode for team Dog, pretty-wise....

But also for team A, seeing as Aramis ' shirt was almost off at various stages.

Sure team Athos enjoyed it too, and everyone else.....

I think the Pauline bit was there 1. To provide and interesting side line to the diamond story, 2. To give Aramis more back story, 3. To allow Athos to say "aramis is my penance" (in other words to give room for some disagreement between the characters), 4. Because she was pretty.

As I said earlier, if Athos invites you up for wine, you go up/down/whichever way you can get it. Discussion of political views or 'getting to know each other' can wait. (But I did think that scene was beautifully played - just the expressions on their faces.) And I think they're a good match - it would be utterly unbelievable to match him with a doormat. I think she intrigues him.

I think they're building up a nice head of steam on the whole theme of inequality between classes, and the Pauline story also let them touch on that (the perils of trying to move up through the classes when you're really an insecure tart-with-a-heart) and also show Aramis having trouble with 'obedience' again. (Though what happened to "we follow our orders, wherever they lead" in S1 'Good Soldier')
