Book Adaptations with completely different endings??!!

Just watched an 'Adaptation' of Dorothy Koomson's The Ice Cream Girls and they changed the killer!! Wtaf?!

What?? Wasn't that the whole payoff of the book?

My Sister's Keeper was the worst change I've seen !!

Hated the end of A Room With A View, the tv adaptation, where they decided that instead of the more upbeat ending in the book, they would kill off one of the characters.

I hate this too - though I can only think of films

They did mess about with Case Histories a fair bit when that was on.

We Need To Talk About Kevin. The murders at the end were so vividly described in the book including the position of the bodies and it was really distressing... but in the film they arent in those positions!! That annoyed me because i found it one of the most effecting bits of the book.

I don't get! It just ruins everything. The ending of The Ice cream Girls came within minutes of proving the correct killer then out of the blue revealed it to be Serena's mother not Marlene!! Same with My Sisters Keeper when they changed which sister died. So infuriating!

It defeats the purpose of even adapting a book at all. Why not just tell a new story?

Jaw is one I remember but it wasn't the ending.
In the book Hooper (Richard Dreyfus) has an affair with chief Brody's wife.

I preferred the film ending of Charlotte Grey to the book. Though I was going out with a French man st the time which might have made me a bit bias...

No, the film Charlotte Gray ending is just wrong wrong wrong.

Worse one is the I am Legend film with Will Smith. They completely changed the ending, when the original ending creates the whole meaning of the book.

The tv version of Life and Loves of a She Devil was very close to the book. The film version was a complete travesty, turning a dark and thought-provoking story into a slapstick comedy starring Roseanne Barr.

I hate this with a passion. So many films ruined by changing the ending from the book. Don't even get me started on Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
