They survived? They all survived? I'm gutted. Surely someone had to die, instead we got happily ever after.

It was lame and very rushed wasn't it .: I think before it was filmed they expected to get another series.

Apparently they filmed two endings. Stana Katic was leaving after season 8 but they thought the show would go on to season 9 so I assume the original plan was for Beckett to die and Castle to survive which would have been a better ending.
