Intrigued - think it will be either really good or really awful. It's had good previews though......

I'm not sure but cant turn over

BoatyMcBoat · 30/05/2016 21:10

I'm enjoying it but I want them to STOP THE BLOODY MUSIC!!!! It's making it really hard to hear the actors, and they are doing it brilliantly - but I can only hear what they're saying half the time because I know the play quite well.

BoatyMcBoat · 30/05/2016 21:11

DH has given up on it because of the damn music.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/05/2016 21:14

I don't like it. Hate the music and hate Titania and hate Matt Lucas. The only thing I like is Puck.

BoatyMcBoat · 30/05/2016 21:18

Just switched off. Really can't take the music. See that BBC? I am being forced to interact with my family now!

dembloodybells · 30/05/2016 21:58

WTAF???

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/05/2016 22:01

Terrible.

TheNIghtManagersWife · 30/05/2016 22:03

I absolutely loved it! Not seen any Shakespeare before in my life though! I was hooked from the beginning and the modern day twists made it much easier for me to understand and follow.

I watched with subtitles on to help me understand what was happening and found that Shakespeare's language was much easier to understand than I thought it would be. Loved it all.

dembloodybells · 30/05/2016 22:06

Well, I'm not sure it was terrible, Remus, but certainly an odd ending.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/05/2016 22:09

Terrible was an opinion, rather than the final word. Grin

OTheHugeManatee · 30/05/2016 22:10

Blimey. Never seen them kill off Theseus before Shock

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 30/05/2016 22:12

Very odd ending, but loved it. Grin

senua · 30/05/2016 22:15

Gave up after 20 minutes - I couldn't hear what the actors were mumbling because of the music.

cathyandclaire · 30/05/2016 22:18

I really liked it, thought it was a great adaptation. Loved the demetrius in particular, he was fabulous, also liked Helena she was just the clunky, clumsy Helena I'd imagine

BestIsWest · 30/05/2016 22:20

I only watched the first half, going to catch up tomorrow. I was quite enjoying it but apparently Game Of Thrones takes precedence in this house.

Clawdy · 30/05/2016 22:38

Wasn't sure at the start, but ended up loving it. Oberon and Puck were wonderful. And the lovers were quirky and different. The Mechanicals were good but not brilliant. I rather liked the wicked Theseus storyline too.

DD is 11 and has been reading the play in school. She isn't very confident in English lessons and has struggled with it a bit, but is really enjoying this adaptation. I had to persuade her to pause it part of the way through Act II and go to bed, with the promise that she can watch the rest tomorrow.

I like the way the fairies are portrayed; it makes them seem very unworldly. I'm a fan of fantasy, sci-fi and dystopian fiction, so the setting appeals to me.

TheSecondOfHerName · 31/05/2016 19:59

Thank you for the tip about the subtitles, which is helping DD follow Act 2.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 31/05/2016 20:02

I wasn't keen - the production made it look like an episode of Doctor Who, which isn't a shock given who produced it. The music was unbearable. I loved Maxine Peake in it though.

That's what appeals to DD, I think.

BestIsWest · 01/06/2016 21:50

Finally watched it all. I liked it. Loved Helena.

MustStopAndThinkBeforePosting · 01/06/2016 22:30

Just watched it tonight - I loved it!
Brilliant to reinterpret Theseus as evil. Same lines as ever but I never really appreciated how cruel the words really are.
Loved Hippolyta and Titania at the end.

Obviously hated bloody Matt Lucas but you can't do a lot with the rude mechanicals. I was just tuning out by doodling with MN on my phone during the tediousness of the Pyramus&Thisbe play when I was delighted by what Theseus was doing on his iPad during the tediousness of the Pyramus&Thisbe play. Genius.

Dozer · 02/06/2016 08:09

Quite liked it, and agree about Theseus, clever, and not seen him played like that before.
