The Sopranos just watched episode 1

I think I like it.
I'm aware that everyone else on the planet has watched it but I was looking through Sky box sets for inspiration. I think I avoided it before became I thought it would be too violent and I am squeamish.
It was violent but not shockingly so.

I've just finished it. It lived up to the hype.
We watched a few each week. Bored now we have nothing decent to watch! Enjoy!

I think DS2 might like it. It's always hard to find something that appeals to us both, I can't cope with GOT or Walking Dead. He's 18 and we've just finished Suits.

Best thing ever on tv. It's such a journey. I have friends who gave up after a couple of episodes but I adored it right from the first one. I will go back to it one day. I still can't face seeing J gandolfini knowing that he's gone he was so perfect in that role.

It's amazing TV. Stick with it.

I'm looking for something to replace the West Wing shaped hole in my life (binge-watched that recently) and think that Sopranos might be it. House of Cards is our other option.

My most favourite programme ever. I've got every episode in box sets. Wouldn't part with them. < sad I know >

Peaky Blinders seems to be shaping up nicely. It's a shame James Gandolfini popped his clogs early. One or two spin-offs were in the wings.

It's reminding me of Desperate Housewives in style, a similar sense of humour.
I'm struggling with the accents and mumbling though. I thought it would get easier but I'm only able to understand half what they say. I need sub titles.

Embrace the sub titles. You can see the Italian words in tbe dialogue that way as well. I couldn't understand half of it before using subtitles and now use subtitles for pretty much everything

It's great with a real sense of humour but it really is not like Desperate Housewives.

It gets very violent and though some of the violence is mixed with humour, it's not a joke. There's a particularly nasty bit in the Bad-a-Bing in series 3 or 4 that isn't at all funny. So if you don't like violence, stop watching it.

What I like about it is that you learn that though Tony has his good points, he is not a very nice person and neither are the people around him whether they're gangsters or his family.

Except Sil. I like Sil. But he's ruthless.

The joke is that they idolise the fictional characters in The Godfather, because it is completely sentimentalised, while they are mostly grubby, stupid and nasty.

I envy you watching it from the beginning. I LOVED it, still love it!

Thanks for the warning limitedperiodonly. I struggled with Breaking Bad as the violence got more graphic. Will persevere for now but quit if it makes me uncomfortable. It's odd really. There shouldn't be a difference morally between implied violence and explicit. The action is the same. It's almost as though I feel it's wrong to find it entertaining.
I will see whether I can work out how to download with sub titles on Sky box sets.

I think The Sopranos is more violent than Breaking Bad. It has a similar sense of humour and the same treatment of characters in that sometimes you like them and sometimes you don't.

For me, it's really worth watching. Some of the worst characters give the best moments. But some of those moments are very violent indeed.

Oh, it's shockingly violent there's no getting away from it. I adored it though. It's awful how you can like such violent people. I had a crush on Tony all the way through it. It's obscene.

I had a crush on tony too! I don't want to know what that says about me as a person.

I also adored this show and I'm not a box set type person at all. I loved the subplots, the analysis of dysfunctional family life, the Italian references, the humour, the dark moments. Everything about it. The violence was bad but counterbalanced by so much else. I cried for a week when James gandolfini died.

Me too especially when i read that he was a normal nice man. Never dodged his taxes so he left not as much as a normal celeb would. When his agent got him a huge payrise he bought everyone on set cars etc. bless him.

It is the best TV ever made. Ever.

Shakespearean in its intrigue, writing that was as good in the last episode as it was in the first, full of humour, pathos, tragedy, excellent female characters, every single character was complex and multi-layered, the acting was fantastic, it was meaningful, profound and just so so watchable. I envy people who have never seen it and can watch it from the beginning.

Fave episode ever was Pie-Oh-My. Tony and the racehorse in the stable. Cried buckets at that one.

My favourite episode is called " The Pine Barons " . Paulie & Christopher try to dispose of a Russian Mafiosa's body out in the woods due to Paulie's egotistical incompetence. Christopher is fuming because of the stuff-up. But due to loyalty & obedience to the crazy mafia rules on hierarchy he has to see this to the bitter end. It really takes you through a gamut of emotions. Megga Lol ( heard this on River City on BBCi player and have been busting to use it ).
